Recommended Posts

I'm 9months post op and I'm at 650 calorie Intake... I've been thinking about uping my intake to see if it will help me lose weight faster.... So any suggestions on what to do? As of today I had a Protein Shake and a string cheese... Any suggestions?

if you dont have a nutritionist or a Dr to ask, I would suggest going up to 800 quick, then up to a 1000 in another 2 weeks or so.. It sounds like you are not eating enough at this time. at least in my opinion..

Oh my goodness honey, yes, eat more! Please!! I'm 9 mos on the 2nd of December and I've been eating at least 1000 since maybe 5 months out! Then 1200. Now I keep under 1400, anywhere from 12-1400.

I say up it 200 cals at a time.

I don't currently have insurance anymore so I have to pay outta pocket so I don't see anyone... I come here and myfitnesspal hoping to find people with information to help guide me in the right direction.... Will I still lose weighty if I up my calories? That's what I'm afraid of is gaining weight?

Do you do multiple shakes a day or how are you getting it all in everyday? Also, are you getting your 64 oz of Water a day?

you need to track your intake if you are not. I like my fitness pal.. You can set goals and monitor your intake. i struggle with Water but I do better when I get my protien and water in. i do not drink shakes anymore. I eat meat, fish, chicken, beef Jerky and greek yogurt for my protien. I also eat lean cuisines and healthy choices.. When I 1st started eating them I could only eat half at a time.. I fear your bodu is in starvation mode and keeping your metabolism shut down at such a small caloric intake. You have to start adding calories to your daily intake.

I agree. I don't think you're eating enough.

Consider this: over the years you spent money on food, enough money to help you get into the situation where you had some type of gastric surgery. Now that you've taken some control over your food and are nine months post-op, and are headed in the right direction; now is when you feel you are not deserving enough to spend some money on yourself to get proper nutritional advice? The lack of proper nutrition at this stage can set you up for a host of medical problems such as gall bladder problems, nutritional deficiencies, leaching of Calcium from your bones, hair loss, weak bones etc.

There was a time when we might have felt that we didn't deserve the things and experiences that 'normal' people had. NOW IS NOT THAT TIME!

Go to a nutritionist as fast as you can!

I will be 6 weeks out tomorrow and I get between 500-800 calories a day

I started at 600 calories. At month 2, went to1,000, then 1,200 at month 3. When I started running 3x a week, and going to the gym 2x a week, 1,200 just wasn't enough. At 5 months I went to 1,500 calories. I am now 6.5 months and down 60 lbs. and 4 pants sizes. Keep in mind that I am 5'11" and built like a linebacker, so ultra low calorie diets just don't work for me.

My scale weight loss has slowed to about 5 lbs a month, but I am only 20 lbs from goal. And my body keeps changing even when the scale doesn't. My waist (my real problem area) is finally looking smaller. And now my bras are too big AGAIN. But, better than being too small, right?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
