I'm going to my first appointment (shared) with Dr. Verseman on Thursday. I'm not sure whether to go with the sleeve or the bypass. How did you make your decision?

Hi I went to that appt I also went to my one month with the dietitian, my next check up is dec 13 then I should get either a go ahead or another month to work on stuff. I decided really after going to the support group. Almost everybody there had the sleeve, I also you tubed both surgeries, and the sleeve looked some what to me easier, the bypass looked like there could have more issues arise.plus when you go to the shared appt he will meet with you individually and tell you what he thinks would work for you.

I know I'll probably find out tomorrow, but what stuff do you have to work on? The dietician at the seminar mentioned a checklist...what's that about? I had a friend that had the bypass. She lost over 100 lbs, but she also had some complications. All I really know for sure is that I DO want surgery, and I DON'T want a band. Have you joined any online support groups that you like? I joined this one on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/100213180146725/ and it seems like it will be very helpful...

Well your first shared appt he will go more in depth with you and that helped me out a lot. You won't get the check list until your next shared appt with the dietitian. But a helpful hint because I was worried about this notorious check list too, it's basically everything they tell you in the seminar and in this meeting, I had over half of my things checked off once I got it because I was already doing it. Such as the 70 minute rule, getting at least 60g Protein, getting a multi Vitamin and Calcium, trust me it's so simple and easy! But once they give that list to you then you set up a one month after that and then they determine whether you're ready and set your date. My monthly check up is next week:) they will today give you a check list too but it's not the actual list, it's more like the way it'll all happen and they will make other appts for you if necessary like pulmonary or cardiologist and let you know about the support groups to attend. Good luck today:)

Hi! Thanks for the well-wishes! The appointment went well. Dr. Verseman said it's up to me whether to go with the sleeve or the bypass. Right now I'm leaning toward the sleeve, but I'm going to wait until after I see the nutritionist and psychotherapist and go to the support group before I decide for sure. I'm making good progress right now, but I still have some things to work on. Do you have any food recommendations? I've found a few things I like, but I don't want to get sick of them before I even have my surgery. Have you tried any of the Protein shakes?

Good luck with your check up! I hope all goes well!

Hi! Did you have your check up yet? How did it go? I just did my upper g.i., I've got Vitamin levels tomorrow, the dietician and pulmonologist on Wednesday, and a support group meeting next Saturday. And I've still got to make an appointment with the psychotherapist, and I think they want me to get clearance from my primary care physician too. Busy!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
