I am not a crier but one week out I have started crying, not loud boo hooing but huge silent tears start rolling over the slightest thing. The look on my husbands face was total shock.

Anyone else experience anything similar?

It was a hard transition. There have been a few times I'e wanted to cry. Especially because I was so nauseous and I could get anything down. I was fantasizing about being able to eat like I used to and it was so frustrating to know that I will never be able to eat like that again. So many people on here talk about moderation... I know I can eat most anything EVENTUALLY as long as I'm careful but the idea of taking a couple bites of a REALLY good burger just does not satisfy the way thoughts of eating a WHOLE burger does! As you start to feel better and add more things back into your diet I'm sure you'll feel better. I started to feel better just being able to get one Protein shake in... can't do more than that without feeling like crap but I'm losing weight so I'll deal (not that I have much choice now right). Remember you're grieving what life used to be like AND your hormones are going nutso!

Good luck!

Yes! It was the weirdest thing! For the first two weeks I would cry at just about anything. Like I would drive by a homeless person and start feeling sad for them and my eyes would start tearing up. It was quite annoying. Now, I'm back to normal so to speak.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
