I'm over two years out, and I still eat a high Protein low carb diet. If I eat my Protein first, I don't have a lot of room for anything else. So, for me, in order to get the amount of protein that I need, it means I eat high protein low carb. It isn't hard to stick to it.

I tried Atkins before having surgery. Both are high protein low carb, but I don't eat like I did when I was on Atkins. But yes, they can be similar.

You can't post there until you have been sleeved for 6 months, but go and read the veteran's forum. You can learn a lot there. We have several Sleevers more than a year out. CowgirlJane, Fiddlerman, Butterthebean, CLK, Laura-ven, Georgia, coops all are well over a year, and I'm sure I have left a bunch of people out.

I had a hard time at first with serving myself too much food, but you can't fit a lot in. It doesn't take much to feel stuffed like Thanksgiving. You get used to it and you make sure to eat the Protein first, and a bite or two of veggies. Eventually you can fit a bit more in (by the 6-month mark, I can eat about a cup total) because the swelling has gone completely down. It takes a bit longer to eat because you need to chew carefully, so I don't generally finish before whoever I'm eating with. Really it doesn't take long to get used to it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
