Broth Question

Recommended Posts

So I'm in the 2 week pre op diet. One of the things I can have is a serving of broth a day. I can't stomach the plain broth I bought in the carton. Since it's too late to call the nutritionist I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on a vegetable Soup and straining out the veggies.. It's a lot tastier.. Much more sodium.. Would that qualify as broth??

Yes it's broth (as long as it's clear and totally strained), but watch the salt. You can always make homemade broth. It's much tastier and less sodium.

Swanson makes a good broth that is spicy, it's now. It's called Mexican and it's in the carton. I am almost six weeks post op and I used that prior to surgery as well as post op. It was much tastier then the regular broth. Hope that helped :-) Keep us updated

I often would mix the chicken and beef broth in the cartons - 50/50 ratio. I would then heat it up with some onions and mushrooms. Before drinking it I would strain the mix. Tasted delish.

I went to restaurants (Panera bread is good) and ordered bowls of Soup, just the broth, please. They were always very accommodating. I disagree about avoiding salt. The human body has to have salt to survive. Since most of the Protein Shakes are sweet, you're not getting any salt, so the broth -- with salt -- will give you an energy lift.

I love panera soup.. I might have to get me some broth!! I tried the flavor infused Mexican tortilla.. I couldn't stomach it... I don't know why I can't do the broths.. But I can do straining Soup and eating the broth... Weird

Broths got me through pre op. I used to go to restaurants (Panera bread was my go to place), and order chicken Noodle, Vegetable or French Onion Soup and ask for "just the broth, please." I guess a lot of people do this now, because no one batted an eye. It was a nice change of pace from the overly sweet Protein Shakes.

I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I hated the broths. I realized in the 1st week I could strain minestrone, veggie Soups, egg drop etc... And it's totally gotten me through!

They are very nasty! I made my own today it was delicious!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
