What Should You Have In Your Fridge "when You Come Home From Having The Sleeve Done"?

Recommended Posts

I will not be having my Sleeve done until Feb 5th 2014.. But I do want to know what should be in my Fridge before that. I want to get use

to things that I would be eating and liking them before... so it will go smooth. I have been buying things with Protein.. Checking the cal to be low with the most protein...I did get Granola to put in my Cereal with 10g of Protein "nature valley".. But than the next time I bought it I got the Special K

Low fat Granola with a touch of Honey..it is only 7g of protein, but had less cal... I like some in cereal and I like it in yogurt... This Special K one has

47% less fat..... SO WHAT IS IN YOUR FRIDGE... it is good to have things in there.. that are good to reach for...Good luck to you all

Well granola will be way down the road as far as being able to eat it again. Even then you may chose not to eat it..

In the beginning before surgery I made sure I had a wide variety of no calorie drinks, drops, mixes, pre made.. Because liquids are the most important in the first weeks to get in and you never know what will be tolerated after surgery.

You will follow a set eating plan for months and all drs are different..

Basics though are Protein Drinks (I like premier pre made)

Yogurt (Greek is best)

Broths and creamed Soups.< /p>

homemade broths are best and will be your friend in the first weeks.

Canned broths suck!

sugar free pudding

I was sleeved a little over two weeks ago. Prior to surgery I made a point of eating through all the stuff I wasn't going to be able to eat anymore. So by the time it came to having surgery I had practically had an empty frig and pantry. This has kept all temptation out of my house. I also started experimenting with Protein Shakes to see what worked best for me. Coming home from surgery I had three different Protein powders, four different types of premade shakes, frozen fruit, milk, cocoa, and powdered Peanut Butter. I was warned not to stock up on a lot of anything cause your taste buds and sense of smell will change after surgery. It worked really well to get me through the full liquids stage.

I was on liquids for four weeks and purees for another four weeks after that. I'm not allowed any form of grains for six months, so granola would not be and is still not an option.

For my four weeks of full liquids post op, I had on hand:

--skim milk

--kefir

--lassi

--light cranberry juice

--low sodium V8

--unsweetened vanilla almond milk

--chai tea bags (decaf) -- I would mix these with a half scoop of vanilla Protein Powder and a splash of vanilla almond milk to make a vanilla chai Protein latte. Make sure anything you mix protein powder with is under 140 degrees or it will clump.

--sample packs of protein powders from Chike, Syntrax Matrix, Syntrax Nectar, and Protizyme, all sorts of different flavors

--G2 and G2 Natural

--Unjury chicken broth and chocolate Splendor protein powders

--Premier Protein chocolate Protein Shakes

--Isopure Protein Drinks (I ended up hating these and had to mix them 50/50 with G2 to get them down, but they have great numbers in terms of protein and carbs)

Good luck to you!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
