This thread has been weird, entertaining AND educational. And now I seem to be craving pomegranets and I am not even sure i like them. I do want to go to Australia though. I know one crazy from the land down under (really this guy is over the top) guy that worked with me in the USA. I was assigned to keep him out of HR trouble... seriously... he needed adult supervision. He was alot of fun though but now back in oz. Maybe I should look him up and see if he is still alive and kicking and wants a visitor...haha! (he owes me as I am sure I kept him from getting sued or fired or both for that big mouth)

Yeah, we try to ship all the crazy ones off-shore...

I just asked my man about the 'issue'...

His answer?

'I don't care whether you bathe in it, snort it, eat it, smear it, throw it around or swallow it.

I just LOVE the fact that you do it!!! - Do you know how many women refuse to do it? And you are the only woman who has ever made me.. <you know> AND you are AWESOME at it! So, you do what you like with it - I don't care!!!'

Appears to be a day of compliments directed at me today. Yipppppeeeee :D

Now Ladies (and Gent), while we all know the calorie burning effects of certain activities, I think we (you) may have strayed a little too far from the OPs question. Pooping staples was a wonderful distraction from tearing each other apart over the relative benefits and evils of bands and sleeves (the bypassers behaved impeccably, I thought), but this particular diversion down Shiny Street has the potential to offend some.

So can we just get out of the bedroom and back to war please!

Oh, and Sleeves rock!

After seriously debating all three surgeries, my history of cheating and my severe acid reflux made gastric bypass an easy choice. It has also been researched the longest and is the gold standard of wls.

Those bypassers are a bunch of kiss azzes :P

They can kiss azzes because they ain't pooping staples ????

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled program. My reason for the sleeve. First, my surgeon doesn't do the band, only continues care for his patients that he banded previously, due to low success rates and increasing long term complications of slippage, erosion, obstruction etc.

Gastric bypass was a no go because I have Crohns Disease and already had a bowel resection. So rerouting of my GI tract and malabsorption/malnutrition was not an option.

I didn't look into and never really thought of the RNY- no particular reason.

My reason for my sleeve and the beauty of it. My main cause of weight gain (as is most of us) was portion and carb control. Removing 85% of my stomach took care of the Portion Control issue. The diet plan is Protein first then fruits and veggies then starch. I never have room for starches by the time I eat my Protein. I wanted a permanent solution for a permanent problem. All of the functionality of my GI tract stays the same. Risk of complications is low, latest I've heard is 3-4%. I just had a hysterectomy 1 week ago and my OB/GYN said the risks of complications for hysterectomy (which is a routine surgery done for decades) is 5.5%. I have completely changed my lifestyle and I feel awesome. I am 10 months post op and have lost 95lbs.

Thank you for sharing! I've basically decided the sleeve is for me as well! What great success you've had!!!! Amazing !!!

Hi,

The surgeon you consult should be able to recommend the best procedure. The Obesity Center I am working with doesn't recommend the LapBand for anyone but they will do it if someone really wants it. One of their concerns is no one really knows how it will hold it 20 years from now and there have been a fair number of problems with slippage.

I know for me, I wasn't crazy about the idea of the Lap Band and my insurance wouldn't cover it. I also have terrible GERD/Acid Reflux. Gastric bypass eliminates that in most people so I am eager to try to eliminate that problem. I have had this issue for years, even as a very thin child.

I haven't had the procedure yet but researched surgical centers thoroughly. If a surgeon does not go over all the options in detail and explain the pros and cons, I would look for another center.

Best wishes,

Chrystine

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
