Need Some Help....thoughts Please

Recommended Posts

I am a little over two weeks post op. Protein Shakes have been making me sick so I have stopped drinking them. I am very diligent about getting Protein in by eating 5 times a day. I know I am not meeting the minimum protein recommendations. I am also having difficulty determining when I am full. I generally have some pain and slight discomfort when eating. My main concerns are the lack of protein and if the slight stomach discomfort is normal when eating. Anyone else with similar issues? Any perspective would be appreciated.

Yes.. pain would certainly be normal if eating at only two weeks out. Have you tried using the chocolate Protein poder like hot chocolate? Or the plain and adding it to Soups? Or the ubjuy protein cheese sauce?

Yes, I have tried just about every combination imaginable. I am trying to give myself a break from protein powders this week, just in case it's psychological. And every meal I am eating is all protein. I was concerned that the pain was me over eating. It's slight and just makes me a little uncomfortable for a couple mins.

I've never heard of eating this early out. I will be on Clear Liquids for two weeks, full liquids for two more, then puréed and soft. I dont get real food for 6-8 weeks. Does your surgeon recommend food two weeks out from surgery?

I am more like Caroline in terms of what I am able to eat almost 3 weeks out. I will say this: it seems like there is a slight adjustment every time I try something new. Nothing major, but I do wait a bit and see how it sits. My NUT says that when I move into mushies I should still progress by adding or subbing one thing a day until I'm sure it works. In other words, not to go nuts pureeing 3 or 4 new things the first couple of days. I don't know if I'm making sense...

I am following my docs plan and have been very diligent in it. I did full liquids for two weeks after surgery. I am on puréed foods for about another week and a half before I can start soft foods for two weeks. When talking about eating I am talking about puréed foods.

Makes total sense. I went a little crazy cause I had to get away from the Protein Shakes. It seems like when I have something new that is when I have the most initial discomfort.

My post op plan will be similar, two weeks of full liquids if tolerated well then two weeks of puree's as tolerated then on to mushy /soft foods then for two weeks and s o on and so forth...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
