Two Weeks After First Fill....is This Normal?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill two weeks ago, and up until a couple days ago, I could still pretty much eat whatever I wanted with little restriction. Then, out of nowhere, I noticed that I have a ton of restriction. I can barely eat 1/3 of what I was eating before and then I'm satisfied. I've even caught myself overeating a few times because I was not prepared to be "finished" eating that quickly.

Is this normal? I know that our band/restriction can fluctuate at different times of the month depending on hormones and other factors, but I had no idea it would be this noticeable!

Hey Sarah,

Short answer, yes :)

For some people, they start with lots of restriction and as inflammation subsides the band gets loser. Than approximately 2-4 weeks later they go in for their next fill.

However, another group of people will start with a tad of added restriction but as time passes it will get tighter. I fall into that category.

If in the future this continues to happen, be sure to not be too aggressive with your fills and give yourself time to reach your full restriction before adding more. Some docs allow fills every 2 weeks and for some of us that would be too early before determining if our last fill was good enough.

If you want to make it a positive thing, think of it as a 2 for 1 fill (snicker)

That's a very good way to look at it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
