Pre-op diet?! Venting having hard time but getting by

Recommended Posts

I started my pre-op diet.... And I'm having a hard time... Has anyone else gone through this .... I'm suppose to be drinking 3 Protein Shakes and 1 meal which is 4oz protien, 1cup salad and 1/2 cup of starch ....

So hard doing this when your husband eats like a cow (he's super thin barely gains weight) and my toddler who I have to fight with him to eat

So all I'm thinking while fighting my child is omg I'm so hungry and I'm seriously begging him to eat (how lucky is he) !!! Which gets me frustrated...

So far I have not cheated and I'm trying hard to keep this up, I want to change my lifestyle and this is the first step so although I'm struggling talking about it does make me feel better

Thanks for reading just venting

I am with you...started my two week pre-op yesterday. Hardest for me right now is the headaches from caffeine withdrawal. My pre-op diet is liquids only, caffeine free, and sugar free Jello only. No sf-puddings, our cream Soups just broth type soups and of course Protein Drinks. My Husband only has to do one week pre-op diet. Our surgery date is 11-11-13. We can do this.????

Yep, the pre-op diet is very hard--but also very important for your liver and the safety of your surgery. Think of it like the morning sickness part of pregnancy; you just have to slog through it to get to the happy part.

Fortunately, It does get a bit easier after about the 3rd day for most of us. Good luck on your journey.

Can you get hubby to feed your toddler while you seek refuge in a quiet room, at least during this difficult pre-op phase? Then you don't have to watch him shovel food in his mouth or try to shovel food in your kid's mouth.

This would be an excellent time and way for DH to show his support for the challenges you face! Meanwhile, you go in the bedroom, take your shake and meditate or plan your meals and exercise for tomorrow. Take good care of yourself--this is hard work!

I'm only on day 2! Lol And I'm with you with the shakes I was thinking just drink them fast but it's impossible lol I take sip by sip that way I semi fool my stomach that it's hungry .... I do have afternoon problems because that's usually when I tend to binge eat ... And it sounds horrible but having my husband around me makes it hard to eat healthy so far I'm hanging in there and like most of you say we can do this!

I am a month away from starting my pre op diet but wanted to find some different shakes. My favorite is Premier Protein. They are premade and I buy them from food lion. 30 grams of Protein. Taste good!!!

For some reason I can't seem to find a shake I like I always get chocolate because I hate strawberry and vanilla makes me gag ... This is definitely harder than I thought going from overheating to just basically eating one time a day ... But if we can all agree in the end it's worth it and I will soon be a step closer to being able to chase my toddler around without being so exhausted .... One step closer to being happy with myself <3

I have a 1 year old and can so relate! I have tried premier s chocolate and to me its good. You should give it a shot. After drinking muscle milk and whatever else I was so upset that I was going to have to drink this nasty stuff. I was shocked that this one actually tasted good! I hope it gets better for you!! I start mine 12/4 as long as all goes as planned. Seems so far away hut sadly not! Whats ur surgery date ??

deehopes, how much Protein are you getting a day? And Water? Being dehydrated makes you feel pretty ragged and can quickly become serious. You don't want to make a trip to the ER to get fluids.

Thanks for your response. I guess I have not been drinking a lot of fluids other than my Protein Shakes.< /p>

deehopes, as a general rule, you should target 64 oz. of Fluid a day, including your fluid used to make the shakes. The Protein target is 60g. You probably won't be able to achieve that just yet, but give it your best shot. You should be feeling better in a day or two. If not, please call your doctor's office. Take good care of yourself!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
