Sleeve to Bypass, NO NO NO?

Recommended Posts

To finish what I didn't say in my last post is that it was not a good thing to have the sleeve when I already have stomach issues! Did your drs inform either of you about the reflux

Yes, I did have some reflux before my sleeve and the doctor and I discussed it. I have been on omeprazole since the surgery. He wants me to take 40 mg daily but 20 usually is enough. Reflux has not been a big problem for me. Goldygirl said exactly what I have been feeling...I am ready to get all these surgeries behind me and get on with my life.

Well I figured I would post an update, I have been officially converted from a sleeve to a bypass on Oct 31. The surgery went well however had to stay an extra night due to pain, but am doing great. I can say that it is the first time in a year that I have not had heartburn to deal with. It is so nice not to get heartburn when drinking Water or taking my Vitamins. I think that this may have been the right choice but we will defiantly see once I introduce real food again. I think that has been the hardest part that I have to go back to square one with liquid diet and progress through the stages but I am happy it is over with.

Philip s so glad all went well with surgery! I am a week post op now and still on liquid diet but will be updated on puréed foods tomorrow and can't wait to see how my tummy reacts! I have not had any regrets since having this done! Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
