first time im regretted having surgery

Recommended Posts

Mz shay...we all go through a period of mourning food and feeling down some days. I know you've had a tough time, and I'm so sorry to hear it. Have you been evaluated for depression by a qualified professional? Depression can worsen or appear after gastric bypass. I think ongoing therapy could really help. Ask for a referral from your primary or surgeon...you seem really down....I worry for you, hon.

I just had surgery on 10/15, and my family had pizza last night. I wanted a slice so bad, but, just like I quit smoking, I completely turned away from the pizza and hubby made me a strawberries and cream Protein shake....yummy!! Hang in there!

I guess I shouldn't have read this post' date=' I am scheduled for surgery next week, Oct 23, it sounds pretty bad, hope I didn't make the wrong decision in having this surgery.

Hope you start feeling better soon.[/quote']

Not everyone feels this way. My experience has been very positive and I look at it as the best thing I have ever done for myself. I had no complications, very quick recovery, steady weight loss, I feel wonderful, I have tons of energy, my self-esteem is growing, and I'm loving shopping as the weight melts away. Yes, my belly skin is hanging but I most definitely prefer that over the huge size I was. I might fix it someday... or I might not. I've lost 77lbs in 4 1/2 months and went from a size22 to a size14 so far.

If you have problems before surgery, the surgery won't fix them. Most reputable programs require psychiatric evaluations so serious issues can be dealt w/before surgery. They will not clear you if you are at risk for more serious problems unless you receive treatment beforehand. The same help is usually recommended and available after surgery should you develop any issues or have trouble coping. Substitute addictions can be a problem for some people too. A good program will educate you about the dangers before surgery. Ultimately, we are responsible for our own success and happiness. If you are struggling, get help.

If your doctor did not have a program set in place for education, help, and support, there are places you can get the help you need. Attending a support group is a good place to start. For anyone seriously struggling and it's affecting the quality of their lives, please seek professional help! You don't have to be miserable!

Sorry but I find most of these replies far too negative, I am now almost 2 yrs post bypass, it took us all a long time to get into the state we were pre op, its not going to be an overnight job to shift it and anyone who goes into surgery thinking it's a magic wand is talking outta their butt! I have had many struggles on my post op journey, I was rushed into hospital at 4months post op when I nearly died!! but I can ASSURE you there is light at the end of that tunnel, I was a depressed, sometimes suicidal 27st woman before my op, it was all I could do just to haul myself up in the mornings... now almost 2 yrs on I am happy, healthy and full of confidence, I am seeking employment for the first time in 16yrs because finally I have the confidence to do it!! it is true in the early days your body rebels and mourns the food it wants you to give it, its stomach surgery NOT brain surgery after all, yes bits will droop and sag but if thats the only price I have to pay to be able to watch my kids grow up, have children of their own? Hell I'll gladly put up with it...our wobbly bits are testament to our journey, be proud of them not ashamed! Where those wobbles with pride ladies and gentlemen and be safe in the knowledge that it DOES get better just follow the advice of your health professionals and take it one day at a time, you must learn to walk before you can run. BE POSITIVE! xxx

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
