Finally approved but terrified!

Have gone through everything I need to for the surgery, now all I need to do is pic a date!! I am so afraid of anxiety and depression after surgery. I already have pretty bad anxiety now, does anyone have any suggestions?

I've always been big and I really want to lose weight because of all the health problems that run in my family. My highest weight has been 292 but I'm currently at 286.

I can relate to your anxiety ..I'm going thru the same thing. My date is Oct 16 ..8 days away. I have been jumping thru hoops for a year now and was ok'd just yesterday. I have also had depression after previous surgery. I worried I'll not lose, scared I'm gonna lose my hair, etc. etc. Same as you I have always been big..I don't know how to be thin.

I read all the posts and go to a support group and know my life will change and I have faith in my surgeon and the people here that I can do it..and so can you. I don't know how old you are but your fortunate to have the surgery before any health problems arise. Good luck..we are both doing the right thing.

Talk to your PCP or therapist about your anxiety and see if meds might be helpful. This would be a good time to do some reading about stress management. Your hospital or community may offer stress management classes, yoga or other tools. Writing a journal is also a good way to identify your worries. Once you clearly articulate them, you can use your critical thinking skills to see their true insignificance. You can use the only 2 columns on paper exercise to identify the concern and then in the other column, offer yourself counter-arguments and solutions. Then... Leap! And the net will appear!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
