Shopping but not buying

Recommended Posts

My husband just gave me one of his sweatshirts to wear since I am freezing all the time. I love it' date=' it's so big and comfy! I wear it all the time when I'm home.[/quote']

I'm wrapped up in one now!! :)

Oh and Lynda, A swimsuit is the one thing I'll never be able to buy... I look good in clothes but there is to much carnage going on underneath to sport one of those!

When I first started shopping I went to the store and cried in the fitting room. I was so overwhelmed. I called my daughter and told her I didn't know what I was supposed to look like. I didn't think it would be so hard or so emotional for me. I had to figure out my style and get used to things fitting my body and not just hanging on me.

I quickly got over that and I love shopping now!

I can wear an 18 now, but all I had was 22,24 26 and my shirts :x or 5 x. I've worn them and still try to waar them but my husband saw me walking down the hall with my 2 year old behind me pulling down my pants cause the were so baggy and my drawers were just hanging. He said baby go buy you clothes. I could not bring myself to buy much but I got 2 pair of pants 2 shirts and some panties.

I found a tiny little thrift store in my area, that is cheap, and the $$ goes to a domestic violence shelter. My hubby jokes that I rent stuff from them. I buy it, wear it a few times and then drop it back off when it's too big. The girls that work in the sorting area have started keeping the smaller sizes for me. Last time I was there I spent $25 and got 6 outfits. All in size 10-12 and Med. They love the fact that when I donate, everything is clean, folded and sorted, all they have to do it hang it and put it on the rack. And they have celebrated my major milestones with me. I got into a size 10 jeans for the very first time there, and the girls all cheered. It's funny when I go in, they always have something on hold that they either think will look good on me, or they are just curious to see if I can fit into it. I am going on a cruise the end of Jan, and they are already setting little sun dresses aside for me for my days in the islands.

Two weeks ago, I tried on clothes in a dressing room and ended up buying a black dress. That may not sound like a big deal, but it was. I have not been in a dressing room in at least 10 years and haven't tried on anything that I thought looked good on me for about 15 years, maybe even longer. Nothing looked good so I didn't "bother". I didn't want to see.

Now I want to "see" everything I am going to put on this body. I want the best look and the best fit. Shopping is more work now but infinitely more rewarding. :-)

That's because you are always stealing her panties and wearing them...

Shhhhh....You promised me you wouldn't tell anyone if I didn't tell anyone about your Pee Wee Herman tattoo.

Well I don't look great in mine, but I finally found an acceptable one at Macys. It's a full suit that covers my hiney and midsection and has a distracting ruffle that goes from left hip to right bustline. It cost a ridiculous amount, but at least I can visit a pool if I'm in the mood.

I'm 15 pounds away from my goal and only have bought 2 pairs of jeans and a couple of tops. I'm going to wait til I hit my goal weight but might give in to a couple more items cause like you....I only have maybe a total of 3 or 4 things in my closet left. It was awesome to throw out all my large size clothes!

I am only 2 month post-op but I have been dropping lbs since the start of this journey since last november. I am down a total of 69lbs. I have been buying clothes since day 1 (shoes too). I like to reward my hardwork with "retail therapy". I have not spent a lot because I am a coupon / clearance sale master.

My tips for finding low priced quality items....

Shop at JC Penneys and combine the $10 off rewards coupon with the $10 off a $25 purchase. You end up paying $5 for $25 worth. That ends up being a lot because they've had a lot on clearance for $1.97.

I also shop at Thredup.com This is a great website that sells top name brand, gently used clothing. Shipping is free with a purchase over $50.00.

I have found some really great items at yard sales for pennies on the dollar.

Keep an eye out for coupons in the mail. So far this week I have received $15 off a $15 purchase at Lane Bryant, Two $10 off a $10 purchase at Bob's, a $10 off at Kohls, and JC penneys of course has once again sent me the double combo of $10 off that will be combined with their other coupon of $10 off a $25 purchase.

One added benefit to all this weight loss. I have been able to donate hundreds of pounds of clothing to local non-profit agencies. If you do this don't forget to ask for a receipt and take pictures of the items being donated (for tax purposes). Weight-loss and a tax break....who could ask for more?

Oh, I'm sure my husband is dreading the disgusting amount of money I'll be spending on shoes once I reach goal. I'm walking out of my heels now (but I'm just excited to be able to wear heels again)!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
