How close were you to goal weight before you had surgery ? I see a lot of after pics where the person seems to have an odd thick shape and I don't want that, is that because they still had access fat to lose and not just skin ? Has anyone ever used a teaching hospital where residents do the work under supervision ? My price quoted from them was half that of others but I would like to hear thoughts on this. Also if you had surgery (tummy tuck/breast lift w/augmentation) how long were you off work ? Thanks !

I was over 130 lbs over weight before surgery. Some who were super obese have sagging skin. The goal for most is to get to a healthy weight where medications are not necessary. I not only wanted that, but I wanted to have energy and feel like I could move with out labor ing for breath. I hope to have a Tummy Tuck and a boob lift once I hit my goal weight. We shall see. Best wishes!!!

Are you referring to after photos posted on this forum or from your surgeons page where people look odd?

It's hard to answer without knowing the specifics but often people's goal weight is higher than a normal/never obese person would be. I think you need to look at the before photos to try to come to conclusions. Plastic surgery goal is to have significant improvement might be disappointing if you seek perfect body. Having said that lower body lifts can sometimes give a boyish shape. I had at least something of a waist before plastics so my after photos still show that waist so I am happy. ..I am just 2 1/2 weeks out now... takes 2 months to see final results.

Yes that's a good way to describe it "boyish" Iv tried to determine from before pics but everyone is so different. Iv also talked to a couple different surgeons but as with anything there are no guarantees. I have a waist at this point with curves which I would like to keep, it's just a lot of money to put out not to he happy with the results.

I'm having my TT w breast lift on Monday!! I'm about 15 to 20lbs from goal. The doc said just from my extra skin I will lose another 10 to 15lbs. I would probably not have residents work on me but that's just me. Also I am taking two weeks off of work. Doc says that's fine, all my friends and family say it's not enough

I had a breast lift 11 days ago and will be going back to work this week. I am a RN so my doc didn't want be back too soon. If I had a desk job I could have went back after 1 week. I am 5 lbs from my personal goal but have passed my WLS doc goal. Most plastics docs want you to be at a stable weight for the best outcome. As for using a teaching hospital well it depends on if you care about the scaring or not, because an inexperienced resident will be doing the sutures and if not done correctly you have worse scaring.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
