Vitamins making me throw up...

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 5 months post op, and never had a issue with my Vitamins. Until now. I switched to a new flavor, same brand, but berry instead of orange, and they are making me sick. Not everytime, but twice in the last week. Within 10 minutes of taking them I am throwing up. Any advice? I hate to go get new ones, because they were $40 for the bottle. Would it help to take them with food, without food, night, day? Anything? So far the two times they made me sick, once was on an empty stomach, the other was about 30 minutes after eating some Soup. Both in the morning.

I would probably go ahead and order the ones that don't upset my stomach, and revisit these Vitamins later. Let some time pass, could make the difference in how well you tolerate them.

Can you return them? Some stores will let you return them if you do not like the supplements. I know that GNC does it and I think where I ordered my first bariatric vitamins does as well.

I kicked the chewable stuff to the door at about three weeks in and I changed over to a pill form because the chewable ones made me sick and according to my labs at that point, my body was absorbing them the way it was supposed to. You might want to consult with your doctor or your nurse.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
