i had this problem when i started purees/soft foods. especially because we have a hard time getting in fiber with no raw veggies and fruits. i started taking Miralax at night in 8oz of applejuice diluted with Water and it helped me tremendously! after doing it for a few nights in a row i started going regularly again. but still call your surgeon first just to make sure there's not an obstruction because using anything could make it worse!

Thanks! I may try apple juice bc its always been way too much to drink stimach wise before so it may do the trick!

Miralax is a miracle! I take some every day mixed in my Protein Shake .

Milk of Magnesia usually makes you go after a dose or two. Then MiraLAX daily. It is clear and dissolves into anything. It is safe to use long term.

Stool softeners draw Water into your stool but doesn't make you go. Once you get going, continue on the MiraLAX every day.

Another vote for Miralax, and for putting it in my one Protein shake every morning. Also, get those Fluid numbers up, and walk walk walk!!!!

BTW, I mix my Protein shake/Miralax as soon as my feet hit the floor in the morning (it's my new coffee), and use it to take all of my morning meds. Thirty minutes later, I'm ready for a soft boiled egg or something.

Had the same problem called my doctor and he told me to buy milk of magnesia. Did the trick within the hour.

I had my two week follow up appointment and discussed this with my surgeon today. I went 15 days until I went, and I was freaked out. He said as long as you're passing gas, it will come. He said he doesn't like for patients to take anything so early on, but you can drink prune juice and/or up your Fluid intake.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
