What to eat after a work out....

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping there are some suggestions out there - I'm almost 6 weeks post op and have started at the gym. I'm an early riser so will be going in the mornings before work. This morning, I drank my Protein Shake on the way there (I have to have something when I get up) and found I was a little wobbly after. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's a good thing to have after? Not supposed to have any energy bars or granola bars or anything like that and I don't think another Protein shake is the way to go.

My go to after the gym is a few hard boiled egg whites and/or string cheese. I'm no expert, so curious what others will say, too!

I do a Protein Drink before and after work outs. Or something small food wise with Protein like a egg and cheese or a Quest bar. most of the time its a Protein Shake before and after.

I get that way when I am dehydrated. I need to drink Water throughout my workout. How's you water the night before and first thing in the AM?

Thank you all! I can't eat eggs now for some reason, so those are out. I was thinking about a Protein shake before and after, but was concerned about going over the range I was given by the NUT. Is that a bad thing?

Erp - I drink at least 100 oz a day. I get wobbly because my sugars get low.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
