Hello, I had my sleeve done on oct 15th and I'm healing well. I've looked on thwse forums for a long time now but just made the choice to sign up because I'm kinda lost and upset.

I want this too work so bad but can't seem to find a template. I want some black and white info that says do this and you will get to live healthy.

I downloaded my fitness pal to kinda help me keep track of everything but its still lile a puzzle.

I have had two protien shakes today and a unsweetened apple sauce.

Why I'm lost is idk the carb to protien ratio I should have and stuff like that. What really sucks is I'm a very exact kinda guy and it seems like a lot of theory.

My doctor told me to not even worry about carbs for the first few months, and just concentrate on getting in Protein and Water. So I eat my protein first, and if I have room, a few bites of carbs/side items. It can be overwhelming in the beginning, so I would recommend just focusing on the post-op plan your doctor gave you as far as your food progression, focus on protein and fluids, and in a few weeks, this will all seem easier to you.

I was never given an actual ratio of Protein to carbs, but I was told to try to stay within 60-70 grams of Protein daily if possible. Right now, protein and Water are the two most important things for you. You're going to want to avoid refined carbs - at least for a time while you're in the losing phase. What you should be eating right now is anywhere from 2-3 oz of a protein based food (meat, fish, cheese, etc.). Lean protein has a higher protein count than fatty protein, so you're going to want chicken, lean beef, lean pork, etc.

A menu example (for when you're on full solids)

Breakfast - one egg scrambled with 1 oz cheese

snack - 1/4 C greek yogurt

lunch - 6 boiled shrimp with 1/4 C steamed veggies (you might not be able to eat all that)

snack - 1-2 oz cheese,

dinner - 2 oz grilled meat, 1/4 C steamed veggies (you might not be able to eat it all)

For right now, what stage of eating are you on? Are you on full liquids, pureed or soft foods? Let me know and I can help with a bit of a road map to get you started. :-)

You are all such a big help here.

I have been having two shakes and that's pretty much it so far.

1 scoop of powder

200ml of 1percent milk

Half a banana

5 ice cubes

1tbls of Peanut Butter.

What really sucks is I put my surgery off for about a year after it was almost time to have it bscause I started my career and a golden job fell into my lap but had ten month probation. Sadly a lot of the stuff the nut told me was over two years ago so I'm a little rusty.

You are right when you say its a lot at first. I'm so scared it won't work out. I have a four month old son and need to be here as long as I can.

I just started pureed yesterday but two shakes it 600 cal so idk how I can even have more. I see some people say aim for 600 cal.

Okay, you want to stay as close to 6-900 calories as you can.

Since your on pureed foods, you have a lot more variety options. Make a big pot of Soup or chili, then run it through a blender or food processor. Make up some refried Beans and dilute them with about 1/2 c of chicken broth per can of Beans.

A day would look like this:

Breakfast: 1/4-1/2 C greek yogurt (if you like it sweet add some honey or stevia to it)

snack - 1/2 C refried beans or Protein shake

Lunch: 1/2 C pureed beef stew

Snack: 1/2 C ricotta cheese or Protein Shake

dinner 1/2 C pureed chili

You want to use Protein shakes as a supplement. Getting your Protein in is important, but it's also important to try to get as much as you can from food sources. Protein Shakes don't actually give you as much protein as you might think b/c it's hard for the body to absorb it in that form.

Some other things you can do - egg yolks mashed with some mayonaysse, instant grits mixed with cream of shrimp Soup (i have that recipe on my blog), grits and oatmeal are okay - but don't eat a whole lot of them b/c you really need the protein more. For months 1-6 I tried to keep my calories to 600. Month 7 I shot for 700. Months 8+ I shoot for 900. I aim for 60+ grams of Protein.< /p>

I was sleeved on the 14th. It helps to write done, what your eating. My nut had me just track my Protein and my liquids. I usually have 2 Chobani Greek yogurts a day, a Protein Shake with 2 scoops and then like cream of wheat or Soup for dinner. I'm on soft food/liquids for 5 weeks. I love whole foods butternut squash soup, 1 cup had 8 grams of protein. I hope this helps!

The single biggest tool you should use is MFP so you're on the right track. And you're getting some nice guidelines here but ultimately, the ratio you need to hit is unique to you. It's that sweet spot where you feel satisfied, hit your nutritional goals (60+ grams Protein, for sure) and lose weight with some measure of consistency. Your loss pattern is your own - for me, I only lost about one week of the month, but with the exception of stalls, I had the same pattern throughout the entire loss period.

Start with some of the suggestions here. I was on clears for 11 days post op and then on liquids for another ten days, I think. I can't remember anymore, it's been more than three years! After that I moved into soft foods and advanced to a normal diet as I felt comfortable.

Your biggest focus right now should be hydration as you're at risk for dehydration in the first month. After that, aim to increase your Protein until you're getting those high numbers your body needs so it won't feed off your muscle. After that, as you're able to eat more, worry about counting calories and making a stricter diet for yourself.

You have all been a lot of help and I feel ill try some of those ideas tmw for sure. I really do like mfp. It has already helped a lot.

Its a crazy process and everyone keeps telling me I've lost so much. I didn't tell a lot of people I went for surgery and thats when I normaly tell them.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
