Drain removed tomorrow! EEK!

Recommended Posts

My JP drain is being taken out tomorrow (as long as all goes well and they say it can come out!) Let me tell you, I am more nervous about having this thing removed than I am about the surgery itself! I would like to hear your stories... good and bad... just so I can mentally prepare myself. My sister is taking me and I plan on drugging myself up on pain killers (obviously).

I think it was hooked to one of my toes because it felt like they turned me inside out from my left leg up.

I didnt have a drain with my sleeve but did have my appendix out 6 months after my sleeve surgery and had a drain. I also had one with my gallbladder surgery. The worst part is all going on in your head, seriously. I was a basket case about it too and they came out so quickly that I was like "that was it?". A pain killer certainly wouldnt hurt but it didnt really hurt, its a strange sensation but not really pain if that makes sense.

I had a drain when I had gallbladder surgery also. I remember being freaked out about it as well. It felt a little weird, but there was no pain and it only took a second or two to remove. It really was a non-event!

Good luck tomorrow - hope yours is the same!

The nurse told me it was going to be uncomfortabe....more life flipping around and hitting things on the way out. To me it is like pulling out an iv kinda hurts but relieved to have it out.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping it would be like hitting your elbow really hard - a weird pain - if that makes sense. :) I was hoping it wasn't gut-wrenching!

My nurse counted to three and before I could say "wow, that kinda hurt" she was done. Felt about the same as the catheter coming out. Unpleasant, but not exactly awful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
