Best Airline for Larger People

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I'm 5'4 and weigh 275 and when I flew to Mexico to get banded a couple weeks ago I needed an extension, definitely. The tray table would NOT come down and the seats were very tight and uncomfortable. My friend (who was also getting banded) and I realized on the flight home that we could put up the arm rests and be WAY more comfortable!! :o So if you're sitting with your hubby remember to put up the armrests and that will help the comfort level a lot. We asked for the extensions as we boarded also, like several other people were saying. It wasn't embarassing, but if my boyfriend would have been there I would have died!! Good luck!!

Delta.

Seat extensions are free on all airlines.

Don't fly Northwest, I've had a couple of negative experiences and their flight attendents are less than cordial to fat people.

Delta!

A boyfriend and a hubby?:girl_hug:

I think she was telling the OP to keep the armrests up between she and her hubby.

But let me think in that for a moment...

A hubby and a boyfriend? Could I find the time? :) :clap2:

Okay, I have a LOL(now) admission! I didn't even know they HAD seatbelt extenders. I flew to Arizona from Cincinnati and I just faked fastening it on every flight! I had to take a small plane from Cinci US Air to Charlotte and then catch a United flight to Phoenix. I wore a long shirt and tucked the seatbelt beneath it and held onto the end that wouldn't fit around me by about 3"!! The little connector part I pushed between my hip and the armrest so you couln't tell. AHH the lengths I went to when I could have just asked!!!!! Thought I'd give you a laugh!!!!!!!! PS I weighed 360lbs when I flew and I am 5'11". If I made it you will too!!!!. I never took the Snacks or drinks cause I know I couldn't get the tray down! I was paranoid that if I drew attention to the fact I couldn't fit, they would ask me to pay for another seat in front of everyone!!!

best of luck and have fun on vacation!!!!!!!1

I fly a lot and I agree that Delta has the most comfortable seats. Large seat belts too. I have never needed an extender on their planes or Americans, but have on all others. American is okay but very little leg room. I am almost 6 foot, and that is just about all legs.

1. Quietly and calmly open up your laptop case.

2. Remove your laptop.

3. Turn it on.

4. Make sure the guy next to you can see the screen.

6. Close your eyes and tilt your head up to the sky.

When we think of a plane crash, we typically think of a catastrophic event, of an aircraft plummeting from the sky. But the majority of accidents involving planes also involve something else: survivors.

Hard landings, bad takeoffs, runway collisions, loss of control, and other survivable events make up roughly 56 percent of airplane accidents. And your chances of escaping with your skin intact may change depending on where you're seated. Why? Because most people who die in survivable crashes aren't killed by the impact; they die instead from toxic smoke inhalation immediately afterward.

Getting out alive comes down to two factors: surviving the impact, and getting out fast. So sitting in the middle of the plane is not a particularly good bet, since on many planes you're sitting over the center fuel tank. And if the wing tanks are ruptured, vaporized fuel can quickly explode. A general guideline: Your chances of survival increase the most if you score a seat by an emergency exit near the rear of the plane.

No one compiles statistics to confirm that one seat is safer than another, so these recommendations are based on anecdotal evidence and personal experience. Each aircraft is different, of course, but a few have seats that are clearly safer (and in many cases, more comfortable). Here's a quick rundown:

Plane Type: 757

Safest Seat: Seats 10A and 10F. Though these are window seats, there are no 9A and 9F seats to block your escape, and the exit doors are just a couple of feet in front of you.

Plane Type: 747

Safest Seat: Rows 61 through 64, closest to the window. The 747 tapers near the rear, and as a result, there are no window seats in those rows, just extra space to help you relax during a flight…and escape in a crash.

Plane Type: MD80

Safest Seat: Rows 21 and 22 have an extra eight inches of legroom because they are near the emergency exits. And they're far away from the engines, which are in the rear of this plane.

Plane Type: 737

Safest Seat: As far rear as possible.

I'm reading a really interesting book right now and this is one of the issues discussed, where to sit on a plane. Studies found quite clearly that men are more likely to survive a plane crash regardless of where they are sitting. I kid you not, the theory is that they push the women out of the way to get out of the plane.

The point of the study isn't to show men are mean but instead when it come to fight or flight, men get the hell out of a plane. Hormones take over and being a 'gentleman' goes out the door with the man.

They have done studies where they put cadavers in a plane and crash the plane. They study the bodies to see where they were sitting and what the damage is. The reason most people survive plane accidents is because most plane accidents have problems during take off or landing. Many fewer planes literally fall from the sky.

They also found that although most survive plane accidents they would survive with far fewer injuries if the seat belts also had the type of seat belt cars have with the strap across your shoulder but airlines feel they are too expensive to install and the FAA agrees.

With safety rates already so high, how many lives would it save to have shoulder harnesses and for how much more money?

Most people do not die in the impact, but in the fire, so we could install sprinklers, but then the plane would weigh so much that a 747 could only carry 200 people (instead of 450) and each seat would cost $1000, so no one could afford to fly and more people would die driving to their destination (especially from the USA to Europe).

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
