Need help getting back on track & advice

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone- I am nearly 9 months post op and everything has been easy peasy until recently. I had to have my gallbladder removed, then went on a cruise one week later, then my bday one week later. I haven't been horrible, but I haven't been good either. I have gained around 6 lbs. some of it is likely Water, but still- need to head this off and get back on track. So wondering what you've done to sort of "jolt" your body back into loss. Other than the obvious exercise and common sense diet. What are your thoughts? Back to Protein? shakes or solids?

Every Saturday night, I have my cheat meal. I know that I'm going to put on a pound or two because of the processed foods and the sodium in them. To drop the Water weight quickly, I go back to eating my own cooking, no processed foods and I stick to lean meat (pork loin, 97% fat free ground turkey meat, eggs, or chicken breast) and low glycemic vegetables (yellow squash, eggplant, Beans, lentils). After a day of that kind of diet, I shed the extra Water I picked up the night before.

On Saturday night I ate out at my favorite Mexican restaurant. On Sunday morning I was 3lbs heavier. Now there's no way I ate 3lbs of food on Saturday. All day Sunday, I stuck to my Beans and pork loin mix and today (one day later) I've dropped the excess water weight and I'm back down to what I weighed on the previous Friday.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
