Sleeve vs lapband...

Recommended Posts

Thank you all SO much for your feedback. I am very much leaning towards the sleeve now after doing alot if research and continuing to talk to people. I am so thankful fir this forum and for everyone here. I am very fortunate because my insurance covers both lb and sleeve. Continued success to all if you !

Good luck with your journey. I'm a band to sleeve revision because I got tired of ER visits in 2012 because the band just closed on its own... Painful projectile vomiting damaging my insides. I always protected my port. If I exercised too much port was painful. Constant adjustments = time off work = copays.... The slime was gross.i had absorption issues. Lol

Sleeve... 4 months out. Amazing. :) I have to take Prilosec 2 times a week but wahhh. I barely get to wear "new" jeans/capris before I have a buy a smaller size. I am down over 50... I think... I don't weigh.... I update my sig when I see my doctor.

My dr did my band in 2008 and sleeve in 2013.... He doesn't do bands anymore because of all the problems he's seen!!!

Thanks so much Everyone! Congrats on your success!

Wow Crazypants that is amazing that your dr doesn't do lb anymore...that speaks volumes. So happy to hear from people who've had the lb and revised to sleeve. It's such a scary decision because every body's body is do different. U w has 2 csections do I'm not as worries about the surgery as I am the recovery with 3 kids and full time career.

What was your recovery like? Is 11 days off work enough (I can be at desk if needed ).

Yes, 11 days is good. I have had 6 coworkers sleeved and many were back at the one week mark. Some did half days for the second week. I took the full 2 weeks off more as a medical vacation than recovery. I could have gone back after 1 week. Recovery was easy for me.... :) like you said every body is different. Hope yours is too!!

I was banded in 07, lost all my weight and kept it off. Sure I knew how to eat around my band but I also knew how to use it as the tool it was meant to be. I loved my band and I will never regret my decision to have it, it changed my life and it was exactly what I needed to change my habits ( binge eating/emotional eating ) that being said I still revised to the sleeve 5 weeks ago. Recovery was actually similar for me after both. I had surgery on Friday both times with my band I went back to work Monday with the sleeve Tuesday. I will say my post op diet with the sleeve is the hardest thing Iv ever done !! That 4 weeks of post op liquids was killer for me !!

I am a revision from band. Less complications and much better weight loss with my sleeve. I have two kids at home age 8 and 10. Surgery on a Thursday. Went to my son's baseball game on Sunday and back to work on Monday. I had a very smooth recovery but of course that will not be everyone's experience. I have a much better quality of life with my sleeve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
