How do i manage to have 70-100 grams of protein a day?

Recommended Posts

I Had my surgery on September 17th 2013 so I am one month post op... Everything is going well other than the protein! How does everyone manage to get 60-100 grams of Protein in a day? I bought the bariatric shake and can't stomach it at all! It's the most vile thing lol... I went to Walmart and bought a chocolate Protein Powder that has 30 grams of protein per scoop... I mix it in the blender with chocolate coconut dream, ice and a spoonful of Peanut Butter and it tastes delicious but it still makes me feel so sick... I can barely get half of it down... I've been strictly eating all protein for every meal hoping that I can get enough in, but with my little baby tummy I can't eat enough to get that amount of protein in one day... Any suggestions?? Thank you :)

I have had the best luck drinking Isopure. It has 40 grams of Protein and the bottle is 20 oz I think. They have good flavored too....grape, alpine punch( fruit punch), green apple, coconut, passion fruit and lime. I order mine from cwimedical.com or GHC sells it. I like passion fruit and alpine punch. I had a horrible time with the shakes, I gave those up!! Good luck

love Unjury. a step above the others i tried. the other thing if you like the taste but it bothers your tummy, then do one sip every half hour (as part of your fluids) or so through the day, not enough to rile your stomach but enough to finish it before bedtime.

Premier Protein shakes (ready to drink-I hate the powders!) are how I made it through - I still do 1 to 2 per day if I don't get in enough Protein from my limited "real food" intake. 30 grams per 11 ounces and the chocolate is the first shake with this much protein that didn't make me feel sick. They can be purchased at Costco/Club Prix and Sam's Club. Good luck!

You can also add Protein powder to skimmed milk, pudding, and a variety of other foods. Also, being a month out, you can start getting more of your protein from foods. I really like lean, thin sliced turkey.

I find that mixing the Protein powder with less liquid helps. Makes it easier to get it all down. I use Isopure Dutch chocolate with 6oz skim milk. Personally I like the flavor. Tastes like chocolate milk to me. I also used Unjury unflavored and mix it with all kinds of things. Just have to make sure the flavor of what you mix it with is strong. They says in "unflavored" but it is just no added flavor, it certainly isn't tasteless. I have a Protein Shake every morning for Breakfast, it's a good way to get a jump on protein for the day.

If you are in Canada try ordering online from low carb grocery. They have a really good low carb Protein Shake that I would mix with soy milk with high Protein and it was delicious. Make sure you are not trying to drink one shake all at one time. I would drink 4 ounces, slowly at one time and then a couple hours later have the rest. At 4 weeks I wasn't eating solid food only pureed soft food don't rush the process.

I don't do any Protein shakes - they gross me out. I routinely get my Protein in with some combination of the following high protein choices (heavy on dairy, I know, but it is "mushy"). I've been successful with this combination since about 4 weeks out. GOOD LUCK!

lowfat cottage cheese

lowfat string cheese or babybell cheese

chili (I have a sleeve of steel and was able to eat this at about 3 weeks out)

greek yogurt (this is a life saver - 12 g of protein for 80 cal!)

GNC has a protein power pudding that I find very tasty. 30 easy grams of protein

Starbucks Decaf grande skinny vanilla latte

Protein pancakes (I make pumpkin ones and they are wonderful with 11 g of protein each)

Deli turkey with lowfat swiss cheese as "bread"

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
