I am just so afraid of death with this surgery...................anyone else scared of that, too? or am i just being a crazy person???? (I, too, was petrified of my c-section-i swore i would die during childbirth!)

i mean, the chances are soooo low, right?

this surgery just seems like it is a new lease on life............a jump start to a new beginning..................

i cannot wait for my consult on 3/13. i'm anxious to see what my insurance requires. i know they pay 100%, and i know i am considered morbidly obese. i do have high blood pressure, and luckily, no diabetes yet. i did get gestational diabetes with my quad pregnancy, though. hopefully, that has resolved.

anyway, i'm so excited to even get down to a size 18/20............i'm inching up to a 26/28-ugh! sorry i am rambling..............

Hi quadmom, welcome!! Of course fear of surgery is normal, and it's a big step. But holy cow, compared to what you've been through (and still must tackle on a daily basis, I imagine) banding surgery is easy!! I said that compared to childbirth this was a walk in the park. And this might be a great time to have it done, before the babies get mobile. Yikes! :biggrin1:

You've come to the right place. Congratulations on your remarkable family and good luck with your consult!!

Hey Quadmom,

Don't be afraid of the surgery. This is very simple and very easy to get thru. Yes, there will be discomfort and some pain afterwards but your doctor will do their utmost to make you comfortable and happy. If you are anxious about the surgery talk to the doctor about giving you something the day of the surgery to relax you before you go in. I did and before I knew it I was waking up. You wil do great.

You'll go through all kinds of emotions between now and the surgery date. Just keep busy and you'll be fine. In the meantime, read as much as you can about it and you'll feel much more relaxed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
