Antibiotics post-op

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have a serious sinus infection (which I am prone to). My ENT gave me 2 different antibiotics to take twice daily for 10 days. My concern is now that my belly is so much smaller is 2 antibiotics going to be too much? I did not think to tell him about my VSG so I don't know if it matters or not. I have only been taking 1 twice daily because i'm scared it will totally screw up my belly. Any advice?

I think you should spread them out and you should be fine. Do you know if the antibiotics you are taking are supposed to be taken with food or without food? Some are one way and some are the other, and some don't matter.

Insofar as the sinus infections, I have two pieces of advice. I used to get a sinus infection every year that would last for Thanksgiving until Easter. My doctor would give me prescription after prescription for antibiotics. The infection would clear up and within a week or two it would recur. There were two things that I did that helped tremendously. The first was allergy testing. After that, and after learning to avoid the worst allergens things improved dramatically. The second thing is that I was checked by a specialist and it was determined that I had a deviated septum. I had surgery to correct that just over 20 years ago, and since then I've only had one sinus infection.

I take Singulair and it helps...I know I have allergies as well. He has done testing, I don't have deviated septum. I have had my adenoids out thinking that would help, it's been non-stop forever!

As for the meds, yes i am supposed to take with food which is quite difficult as I don't eat and drink anymore!! I have been taking the morning dose with the Protein hot chocolate.

I'd hate to see you waste your time taking something and have it not work....In your situation, I usually call the pharmacist and ask all my questions about absorption, compatibility, food, etc. They are really knowledgable, have lots of resources at their fingertips, and are usually very happy to take the time to help you. Try it!

I encourage you to call your NUT. Although the general advice is to not eat and drink at the same time, I'm think the NUT would OK it in order for you to take your meds. Taking it with a shake works fine as well, but I think you should be taking all 4 per day that you have been prescribed.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
