I had the paraguard from about 8 months and took it out b/c the bleeding was too heavy. I then got the Mirena and love it. No side effects at all. Insertion is uncomfortable but bearable. Good Luck!

I had it for about 4 years and liked it because of no hormones, but my periods got more painful and longer so I had it taken out. I'm getting mirena next month. Most people don't even have a period with that.

I had never given birth vaginally so when I had my mirena inserted my cervix went from zero to holy s$&t. I cried it hurt so bad. They offered me no sedation or pain relief other than ibuprophan.

You may want to ask for some pain meds. For before & after.

I have given birth but via c-section so I'm worried about this too. I won't be getting the mirena, I want no hormone base BC and that lasts a longgggg time lol

Got mine a week ago. It was uncomfortable but not awful. It has contributed to the strangest period I've ever had but I don't have pain or anything.

Hi guys. I'm pre-op and having survey Nov1st!! I was just creeping on all of threads and came across this one and thought maybe I could help you guys that have not had the IUD put in yet! I have worked in OB/GYN for 11 years. You can ask your doctor for a medication called Cervidil. It helps dilate your cervix so it's not so hard to get the IUD in. Or you can can ask for a paracervical block as well. Last but not least ask for the good stuff!! Hope that helps. Good luck.

I'm sorry your going Monday??! I just saw that. You have to take the Cervidil the night before and the day of to "prime" the cervix. I'm sorry. The paracervical block they should be able to do in the office though. Just so you know that's a shot. But after the first one your really don't feel it. Are you sure you want a Paragard?? You can have heavier periods, and they can last longer?? Have you had surgery yet?

Do not reschedule!! You will be fine. Everyone is different. Just go and see how it is for you. The worst thing that could happen is you have to reschedule for a different day if you can't tolerate the pain. Some people feel nothing!!' You can do this ;). It's worth it in the long run. It doesn't hurt to try. I will say a prayer for you. ;). Let me know how it goes. Just make sure to take whatever you take for pain like ibuprofen or Tylenol an hour before and make sure you eat something!! Good luck.

I have the Mirena and like it. The insertion was uncomfortable to say the least (and I have delivered two babies) but its temporary. My surgery pain was worse than the IUD insertion. I did have problems for a few weeks adjusting to it. I do not know if my body tried to reject it or if it was physiological but I could feel it was there. I had an untrasound and it was placed perfectly. Then after a few weeks I stopped feeling it. Haven't had any problems since. I like not having monthly cycles.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
