I know that every body will be different but just curious how long everyone stayed in the hospital after the surgery?

I went home the following afternoon though in hindsight I probably would have benefited by staying another night.

I was in for 4 nights because I had a previous lapband and had a lot of scar tissue they had to cut through which caused a lot of nausea

Surgery on 8/6 first thing in the morning, released 8/8 mid morning........I think I could have gone home the next day......but I did have the roommate from hell LOL

I walked while in the recover room (I was in there a few hours, waiting for a room).....I don't think I feel pain the same way as most people--they were surprised I wanted to walk right away......I know not everyone has this experience, but my surgery/recovery was a piece of cake

Welcome and good luck!

If you really want to know, ask your doctor his typical practice -- your physician controls discharge time for a patient who has no issues (extreme nausea, fever, etc.) . The hospital or insurance co. May have guidelines but he/she is the captain of the ship...

Surgery at 4pm, out by 6pm next day. Only thing I wish is didn't have to go in somewhere to get pain meds filed. That was hell.

Two nights, left early the third morning. I hate hospitals so I had several panic attacks and was taking quite a bit of Ativan and morphine to calm me down! Not fun. I was very glad to go home.

I left the same day and was so happy about that. I felt much better not being in a hospital!

Wow that does not sound like fun at all. I work offshore so I am use to being around a bunch of people I don’t know and a noisy environment.

I had my surgery on Monday, Sept 16th in the morning. I went home on Tuesday in the evening. So one night.

My doctor said it will be 1 night. Personally, I'd rather stay 2 just to be safe.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
