Abdominal pain 3 weeks post-op?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Hopefully this isn't a repeat thread, but I'm wondering if this pain in my side is normal 3 weeks out? It feels like it's around one of my incision sites, on the left side. Anytime I get in & out of car, sit for too long, lay a certain way, it's painful. The other day I sneezed so hard I was scared to look down cause I swore it split open! Of course it didn't but it hurt bad. Has anyone else experienced this? I have a follow up with my surgeon in 2 days.

As long as you have had the pain since the surgery, and it didn't start suddenly after a period of not having it....does that make sense? Pain after surgery should steadily decrease. Any sudden or new pain after you have been successfully healing may be cause for alarm.

That makes total sense, thanks! It has been sore there since surgery. I guess I figured it would be getting a little better by now, but I'm glad I have an appt coming up to get it checked out.

Yeah mine is kind of a sharp pain?! And almost a burning sensation. Its not constant, but enough to concern me a little. As I sit on the couch now it's fine, but I know I'm gonna feel it when I get up! This too shall pass!

It is normal. I had the same thing around that time. My doctor said it was the muscles healing :)

Thank you butterfly_gal, that makes me feel better! It does feel like a muscle soreness now that I think about it.

I'm glad you asked this! I've been freaked out about a pain in my left side somewhat close to the incision site as well. Same issue...when I sit anyplace too long or I get up or twist too much it hurts. It's not really painful, it's more like a twinge, but it concerned me.

I have it I think its coming either from the hole where they pulled my tube out of or from where they pulled the stomach out

That's what I was thinking too. It's my biggest incision and the bruising I had around it from after surgery is just barely going away. I'm thinking something pretty drastic went on there, but I don't think I wanna know all the details either! LOL

That sound like mine, twisting can hurt pretty bad. It's funny cause when I stand or take my walks there's no pain at all. I'm just thankful I don't have any other symptoms besides that.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
