Pureed Red Potatoes?

Recommended Posts

This Friday I think my doctor is going to switch me to puréed foods. At least I hope so, cause I'm starving. I had my surgery Oct 24, so no fills yet. Has anyone tried puréed potatoes or mashed potatoes? I was just talking on the phone with a friend who got the sleeve and she says her stomach totally rejects mashed potatoes because they're too heavy. I went to the store and bought red potatoes, sweet potatoes and vegetarian refried Beans. All in preparation for Friday. Any other puréed food suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a total newbie. I don't even fully understand the whole fill thing yet.

Potatoes are nearly all carbohydrates and Beans offer you some Protein. I recommend the Beans over potatoes. Beans are much lower on the glycemic index and offer more satiety for a longer period of time than a potato. Potatoes are nearly as lethal as fructose when it comes to the GI and how they are absorbed in our stomach.

I also liked to eat egg drop Soup.

I can eat potatoes just fine, but that being said, they are discouraged by my nutritionist because the nutritional content is just not there. Try pureed protiens before you eat pureed starches for the best outcome!

chili and refried Beans are good. eggs, oatmeal, smashed up tuna fish. but your doctor will likely give you a list of food. my doctor did. i remember my first chili after being on liquids for so long. man were they good. i had them in a little measuring cup and i actually licked the measuring cup. my hubby just stared at me lol. man were they good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
