Going to Mexico

Hi everyone.

I am new to this site and so excited since I am going to Mexicali, Mexico to see Dr. Acaves to be banded. I am so confident that this is the right decision for me. I am 37 with a BMI of 40.6 and I need to loose some weight to enjoy life to the fullest. I have a daughter that means everything to me, and I want to be around for her. Any advice and tips would be gretly appreciated.

Sari, please check the old posts. There are several from Mexican banded patients w/excellent advice. Best of luck to you on your banding experience. How old is your daughter? They're great inspirations, aren't they?:D

Sari,

Well, his website has a lot of testimonials. But to tell you the truth, in over two years of almost daily reading about the LapBand, this is the first time I recall seeing his name.

Do you know anyone who has been to him? Do you live near Mexicali? When is your date?

Oh, yeah, and welcome!

Sue

I've never heard his name either. I would surely ask how many bands he's placed. Some docs have been known to 'borrow' other banded people's pics and post them on their websites as their patients. Sad, but true.

I hope you get some good information. Please don't choose someone based on price or location alone. More than that, please make sure you have a local follow-up doc close to home because the band can and does require local treatment/follow up on a pretty regular basis. (Make sure this is in place BEFORE being banded.)

Good luck!

Dr. Acaves is the general surgeon at the Almater Hospital in Mexicali. I am flying almost 7 hours to see him. He has almost 200 band operations and I contacted several of his past patients for references. I feel comfortalble and also since it is a private hospital rather than a clininc it assured me even more. They gave me a contact info for a local Doctor whom is accepting new patients for fills. I still think I am going to fly back to see Dr. Aceves. His price is not the least expensive nor the most. His website does not have that "impressive" before and after pictures that they would appear stolen. He has expericence with very high BMI and lap band, even though that is not my case, it makes me more comfortable. I hope my reseach proves alright and if someone is interested his site is

mexicolapband .

I also read the chat transcipts and his "tone" was pleasant.

New Hope: Thank you for inquiring my darling daughter is 6 years going on 15 and everyday I feel so honored to be her mother. She brings the best in me out, well maybe my husband deserves some credit too

OOPS I forgot to announce the date :phanvan

I am being banded on Sep 14, 2004
