Ok here I am on day 11. I've been in the house uncomfortable since surgery on Oct.15th. So I was determined to get out of the house today. Got up, showered, got dressed, packed Snacks (apple sauce & yogurt. Started driving and this damn port area is more tender than I thought. So I made it to Wal-Mart to get two things. Now I have been sitting in the parking lot almost an hour dreading the 10 minute drive home. Really getting frustrated with my recovery time. Havent worked in two weeks (who cares I own the place) but still I didn't think I would be down for so long.

On anothe note I've learned that when I eat I know Its time to stop when I get the pain in my left shoulder blade.

P.s.

Can someone in Atlanta come get me out this parking lot?!?!

I promise you.......it WILL get better. It took me a longer time than I expected, too. I thought the whole surgery would pretty much be a slam dunk, and it was quite the opposite. Everyone responds differently, and as your post header says......"listen to your body" :) It took a good month before I started to feel back to my old self.....minus the eating, of course :P

Oh Vickie, I wish I could come get you. So sorry to hear you are still in such pain. Where did they place the port?

I find that the shoulder harness hurts my port area when I drive and I was banded over 1 year ago. When I am the passenger, I am fine. Sorry you have pain. I wasn't allowed to drive for 3-4 weeks.

I know walking helped me in the beginning even if it was for 5 minutes.

Aww thanks. The pain was not that bad. Mostly just uncomfortable and tired. Best thing is the gas is not as bad & no pain meds tdy. Once I got home I sat in the driveway and took a nap. My car is very comfy & cozy.

My port is on my left side not too far from my DD breast. Its a few inches below my dreadful underwire bra.

Mine is in the center about two inches below my bra line.

OMG, I feel your pain. My surgery was on Oct. 4th and I still have pain at the port site. Usually 1/2 way through my work day it really starts to bother me. Not feeling to bad today until I sneezed!!! OMG, I thought I just ripped my port out. It hurt soooo bad. So, no matter how you feel, if you are going to sneeze, hold the port area tight. I hope it doesn't always feel like that!!! Good Luck with your journey!! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
