I am 7 weeks post op and I got my first fill 1 week ago 3cc). I ate 10 wings and a small salad today I am full but I thought I would not be able to eat as much. I am really concerned because I am not sure if this band works or maybe I have stretched it out (if that's possible). I am currently 260lbs and I started at 280lbs. I have not once had an incident of sliming or PB like I hear others talk about. I can eat anything (bread, chicken, shrimp, steak, etc) I have no restrictions. Is this normal?

What size is your band?

Yes, it is normal, because the band isn't meant to physically force you to stop eating. It'll tell you that you've had enough, but if you want to ignore it when it tells you that you're no longer hungry and keep eating, then you can.

Have a look at this link: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Not sure what size band you have but if you only have 3 cc in it you probably don't have much restriction yet. So, unfortunately, until you get that restriction. It's pretty much up to you. Good luck!

I'd think its too soon to think that the band is already stretched, your body is still getting used to it..

I agree. I think it's a mistake to leave portion size up to the band. I white knuckled it (many of us did) through bandster hell, and continued to lose until I started having fills. It's important to work WITH the band, and try to change eating behaviors in the process.

Until your band has the adjustments it needs to work it's magic, this will be just like a diet.

Your stoma is still open and until you get the fill/adjustment that makes the stoma small enough, you may be able to eat as you did before being banded. Don't.

Now is the time to work on eating healthy foods. I could eat as much as I wanted the first 4 months and then my 3rd fill put a stop to that. But, I didn' gain any weight during those 4 months because I chose to eat healthy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
