Sorry for what happened to you. I have never gotten sick just stuck with foods. I have tried 1/2 a piece of french toast and I must say, it did nothing for me. That was one of my staples because I don't eat eggs. I now just have shakes for Breakfast.< /span>

You may have helped someone with this post by telling them not to have french toast.

Seems a little early to be eating solid food? Some docs allow it I know but it's one of those things with the lapband that should be approached very very slowly.

First, let's address one bad thing: Vomiting? If you really vomited vs PB(productive burp) try not to do this again. Especially this early in your journey. The band is sutured around your stomach and then the surgeon pulls the stomach below the band up and over the band and sutures this in place. A full blown hurling episode has caused many a Bandster to have to go back in for a revision. Full blown vomiting causes the lower stomach to convulse and then violently expel the food in your stomach. Usually it's just fluids but they now have to go through a small opening(stoma) which can cause the sutures to rip out of the stomach. Very dangerous!

If you ate very slowly and ate a very small bite and, chewed to a mush, you would be one exceptional newbie Bandster. It took me 9 months to get the hang of eating slow, chewing a lot and eating very small. So, yes, you could have been stuck and it could be any one of the foods mentioned? bread, egg, crust?

Many of us can eat anything we want as long as we follow the rules of eating small, chewing big and taking our sweet time.

You might want to speak to your doctor about the barfing session?

I don't know if it's breaking the rules per-say...If you are keeping the calorie content low and you can tolerate it then French toast is not a bad thing in and of itself.

bread especially soft and mushy breads tend to be a problem for some bandsters but not all. I've had French toast, since being banded and it went down and digested well for me.

I made sure the hubby had it pretty well done, it wasn't very soft but not a hockey puck either. However, not having that thick sugary Syrup on it because of the calorie and sugar content, has really put me off the meal.

I tried it with a bit of fruit preserve and it was tasty, but not worth the extra caloric expense for me to have it again I felt.

It used to be one of our main breakfast staples, and the hubby sure made them yummy, but since being banded and having it that once neither of us has the desire for it again.

He still whips it up for the boys, when they ask but not that often at all.

Thank you! This was the reason I started my blog posts. I couldn't find any blogs that told the horror stories of the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want to change that. Show the real side of lap band and hopefully still be a success.

Yes, I did speak to my nutritionist last night. she advised me to slow down and not eat so fast. I do believe I ate it too fast. She has convinced me that my band is fine because that was my concern was causing the band to slip but also informed me that my doctor does an ultrasound at the 1st fill which I am scheduled for 10/31. This will be a good time to discuss this and verify that all is well with my band. Thank you for your concern, it is much appreciated. This is why this community is here - to help each other with this journey.

I loved your comment about the band not being wrapped around your brain or mouth!

I was banded in June of this year and learning to eat small bites and eat slowly has been a challenge. I've had two really bad stuck incidents that led to vomiting (one embarrassingly public) and both times were from allowing myself to get too hungry and then snarfing down food. I literally now use my iphone timer at every meal (even at restaurants) and I can pretty much eat anything I want in very small quantities (except bread or tortillas). I'm now in the green zone and down 105 pounds since May.

It does get better!

This is what I'm talking about!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am only 3 weeks out and worry all the time that I won't succeed! I need to know that I'm not the only one that has had this happen and still can succeed with my band! I'm sorry about the embarrassing public display - it is one of my worst fears - but this too shall pass, right?

not sure why it listed this 3 times...but, also, I cannot eat bread or tortillas. How are you doing otherwise?

txsonicguy, I'd be interested to hear how you use your iphone to help you. Slowing down for me has been an issue too. Sometimes I forget about the lapband and take a huge bite and say a mental swear afterwards because I get the stuck feeling for a few minutes.

I've been banded for a little over 2 years. I highly suggest to use a timer when eating. Being 2 years out I'm able to eat anything. I know what foods go down easy and which ones I have problems with.

As time goes by you'll realize you are able to eat a little more and a little more and then, a little more. Before you know it, you want to hit the buffet like back before surgery. Using the timer will limit food consumption.

how do you use a timer? To limit how long you eat?

there are apps that will count down 30 secs or what ever time you tell it and give you a visible notification that times up. the one i got for my pone is called eat slower. it's an android app.. you could just simply use the little times they give out at the kids dentist to help make sure they are cleaning their teeth for long enough i also use that at home.. that way my kids can play along as eating slowly is healthy for all

Just finished your blog and log your comment about the band not being around your head or mouth.. gosh wouldn't it be easier if it was? I find being newly banded with no restriction part of bandister hell.. i mean here i was practically starving myself... or so my head kept telling me no matter what i ate there was no restriction.. but now i'm on day 2 of liquids having gotten my first fill yesterday worried about what tomorrow the mushes stage will bring never mind Sunday when i can go back to solids again. I will be so very glad to cross bread of my list of food it is my weakness.

any how what you where going through was similar to my experience so i'm glad that i'm not alone.. haven't had the stuck feeling and pray that i never do. best of luck on your journey

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
