How often do you get fills?

Recommended Posts

My ins coverage for fills is getting ready to run out come Jan 1 and I'm not in the green zone and right now my dr sees me once a month and I'm 16 months post op. I just can't afford to see him monthly for the next few years to get to that sweet spot. I will be paying out of pocket. How often do you guys go for a fill? thx

Every Dr. is different and has a different treatment plan....I also know with my Dr., he judges a patients tolerance and either goes easy or aggressive....I had only 3 fills, one month apart, starting 30 days after surgery to give me adequate restriction and put me in the Green Zone....so 3 moths after surgery I was finished getting my band adjusted, and that was over 2-1/2 years ago......

I also noticed when speaking at support groups, other patients said their treatment plans - fills, where much more different...so I keep my mouth shut when it comes to saying what is right and what is wrong, and realize everyone is different and has different tolerances.

My surgeon, when a patient 1st starts out, can be a little aggressive, but by the time a patient is at your level, he is a little leery to add much. Mostly, in my case at least, my fills were very slow after 16 months.

Honestly I've never followed their schedule. I had my first fill 4 weeks after surgery and after that they have always scheduled me for 3-4 weeks but I've ALWAYS called to move it up so I've been getting them every 2.5 weeks to the longest I waited 3 weeks. However, because my last weigh-in showed I lost 8 pounds in 2.5 weeks, I'll wait the whole three weeks to go back. After that he said once a month would be fine... And I agree!

I had a small fill monthly until I reached my green zone. My dr only did .5-1cc at a time on me since I've been losing weight continuously, even when I wasn't in the green zone. Now that I'm in the green zone, he wants to see me every other month.

I get one every 6 weeks. May skip next weeks fill, but will go to appointment to talk with PA as I am seeing green everywhere I look. 8 months and nearly 90 pounds given away. Don't know, or care who picks it up, but I gave it away.

I was banded on August 9,2013 and got my first fill a month later, but since then I have went every 2 weeks and he adds .5-1cc each time. just got my 3rd fill yesterday. I'm losing about 5lb every two weeks and at a total of 30lb lost. I hope to get to the green zone soon.

I had my first fill today. I have a standard band and they put in 3cc's. I am back to a liquid diet today and then mushies tomorrow. With only being on liquids, I can't feel restriction (still) so I am worried that it wasn't enough. I am sure I am just jumping the gun on it, but I just thought I would feel something.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
