Ok I'm having a HARD time not having carbonation. Like my carbonated waters especially. Help. I know we're not supposed to. Has anyone tried at all and what happened?

I've tried them- my surgeon doesn't mind as long as what I drink is diet and caffeine free. I don't drink much carbonation though. My tummy doesn't really like it. Makes me so gassy and uncomfortable. If I'm going to drink a diet soda I pour it over ice and let it sit to de fizz some.

Yep, what Jacqueline said. We shared the same surgeon. I sip occasionally here and there from my husband's cup. By the time we get home with his fast food and drink, the fizziness is completely gone. None left.

I also saw Sparkling ICE beverage being recommended on the Bariatric forums. It's very carbonated but if you let it sit, it looses fizziness a lot. Better nutrition facts than other brands.

My nut says she's had patients drink totally flat soda, but carbonation is still a big no no. My surgeon concurs.

I was a diet pepsi person before surgery, 6-8 cans a day, I love carbonation too. After surgery I did not have any until about 6 months post op, I would sip a soda every once in a while.

The carbonation can stretch your stomach out causing you to be able to eat more... Which means you won't lose as much weight... Just be careful. Don't over do it. I waited 6 months out to try it again and it wasn't as awesome as I remembered... Don't get me wrong , years later I love soda again. ... I'd just avoid it until you get to your desired weight

So the stretching thing is true. I've heard some people say that it wasn't true. I was afraid of that.

Our pouches have an opening on both ends so the carbonation does not build up in order to cause stretching. We should avoid soda first because it's not really healthy or nutritious. Second, it can lead to bad dietary habits such as fast food.

Before you consider getting back on sodas, do some online research into the recent scientific studies on what soda does to our bodies--both regular and diet types. I think you'll be dismayed by the findings. It won't kill you, but soda affects not only our weight, but also chemically affects our organs and our brains. And as you can tell from your cravings, it also has addictive properties.

Having this surgery is really about taking back control of your body and what you put into it. I find that profoundly empowering and life changing. Why would anyone want to give up that sense of control to have fizzy flavored Water?

I understand it's not the best thing for us. I know it's not healthy but I was asking more for myself from time to time if I wanted one. One thing I learned from my past is that when I deny myself something I then over do it later with something much worse. It's a fault of mine that I'm still a work in progress on and I probably always will be.

I am about 3.5 months post surgery. I occasionally have a soda. And by occasionally I think I've had 2 in the last 6 weeks. No big deal.

Old habits die hard I guess. I'm hoping I'll get over it soon

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
