Help! Problems with my CPAP

Recommended Posts

Hope anyone can help. I use a cpap machine for my sleep apnea, however i basically havent used it for 2 months.

Reason being it wakes me up and gives me a restless sleep, i now sleep better without it!

Perhaps it is blowing too strongly, as ive lost about 80 pounds since surgery 5 months ago.

There is a whistling sound coming out of it at the back somewhere and it drives me up the wall. Anyone had that problem? What could cause it?

Also it has a weird smell lately.

I cleaned the pipe every so often with soap and Water. Also took out the little material stuffing in the back to flip it with my fingers to clean it like i was told, though nothing was there, like no dust or anything.

I am smoking again however and that obviously mist have an influence on the smell of the air - but honestly i really dont think it is all that.

Is there some way i can open up the little machine thingy and perhaps clean out its innards?

Does anyone know what i am talking about. Almost a smell of a cupboard that has been closed for too long.

It just makes me not wanting to use it.

And i want to use it though because obviously i need it! Hope someone has some advice ????

I'm no expert, but i guess there are different cpap machines, so I'd suggest googling the model number and manufacturer name for technical support...

If there's a whistling sound coming from the back, could the hose not be completelt pushed into the connection on the machine or could the hose have too much wear or a small leak?

My cpap has a seperate button to open and clean the humidifier. There are so many on the market now. If u can find ur model number google may help. They send me extra filters so I try to change it and rinse the hose with vinegar Water to help the funky smell it gets sometimes.

The whistling could be cracked plastic perhaps and the noise of the forced air leaking. A new Hose might help

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
