I am 14 months post op and drink more regularly than I used to because of how if affects me [be careful!] and I noticed through the months that I drink quite a bit of wine, like 3-6 glasses. It's like I get drunk off 1 glass but to sustain it I just keep drinking. Has anyone over a year out that drinks experience this as well? I'm not very proud of it, just wondering. Ps. I'm primarily a wine drinker

I am 13 month post op, close to you, I am not much of a drinker, 1 margarita every couple of months so I don't have advice on that side; however, I was warned from all sides (dr, psych, Nurse, surgeon) that alcohol addition was a common problem/transference after weight loss surgery. I was asked at every visit in the last year if I felt I was transferring addiction to drinking. I really recommend you see you DR and talk to them honestly. It makes sense, we can't eat in the volume we used to so we look for something else that we can do - and liquid funnels out rather rapidly - food does not. I urge you to see your dr:)

I'm 16 months post op and I totally understand where you are coming from. You want to maintain that buzz but the only way you can do it is to constantly have your wine glass full. Its real easy to get to the point of drinking a bottle a night. I was adding up all the empty calories and WOW ... way too many calories for me so I stopped drinking and having my glass of wine which turned into a bottle of wine. Be careful !!!!

I can relate. I started drinking every evening for about a month then I stop my self then drank occasionally like weekends then I stop that also. I still have an almost empty bottle of moscato most likely flat. I have like 2-3 full bottles of moscato that I haven't touch. I think after surgery next year is when I will drink occasionally again lmbo.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
