Holy crap on a stick! That's an insane amount of cash for one measly month.

the average working family wouldn't be able to afford that. That is crazy. Mine gives me a guide to follow and offers the meals but if you can't afford them then they give you a list of generics. I am covered 100% and I am so thankful for that. (thank you tricare!)

Hello,

So I spoke with my surgeons office today and scheduled my preop appt. however, they informed me that I will have to pay $3,900 for their post op meal plan. I believe she said it would be a month of supplies. She said that normally the patient pays out of pocket and it doesn't count toward the deductible. I asked her to submit it to my insurance to see if they will cover it so that it will at least count toward my deductible.

Anyone ever heard of this before? I think it is the Optifast program. I have anthem blue cross with SISC II. Does anyone know if prescribed meals are covered? I really don't want to pay 4 grand for a month of food lol

Hi Chris I wasn't sure if I was going to share this with you but I went to that same doctor in the beginning and the reason why I didn't choose to stick with their program is because of that 4 grand fee. it seems exorbitant and like they are taking advantage of people who are looking for help losing weight. I felt if the few was legitimate then why wouldn't the insurance company pay for it, when they are willing to pay for the 20,000 dollar surgery. that made me leery of the dockers office. many other doctors offices that are also centers of excellence don't require a play surgery meal plan and educational fee if 4000 dollars. I know that there is something called care credit ago you may want to look into that it's like a line of credit that you can take out to help pay that fee.

Agree with many iffy above. The fee is ridiculous ad they're takin advantage of you. Verify it's not a mistake but if they really expect that amount walk away. I can understand a couple hundred dollars to cover nut, counseling, etc but 4K is insane.

Well I heard back from the office. The food plan truly is non-optional. I can't buy it from anywhere else. If I want to have my surgery done there I have to buy it. Time to look for a new surgeon.

That's ridiculous you wasted all that time with them I'm sorry that happened to you. They told me about the fee at my first appointment so I never went back.

Yes I would never pay that! I can't believe they have any patients at all with that! My surgeon required a $300 program fee which covers seeing nut, mental health, and fitness lady. The pre op diet they make you get from them is $130 for the full 2 weeks of food. No way would I do anywhere near 4k!

I am so sorry to see this happening to you. It's completely ridiculous that they failed to mention this until now. I hope you can find a surgeon who is more ethical.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
