How long does laprascopic RNY surgery normally take.

Recommended Posts

Hey...

How long does it take a surgeon to do the laprascopic RNY reconstruction? Just wondering. I am sure my sister will want to know before my surgery next week.

Nurse told my hubby that I would be in there 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

Mine was 3 1/2 hours but that included 45 minutes getting rid of adhesions.

My surgeon said 1 to 1 1/2 hours, if no other issues.

Mine only took 2 hours. My surgeon is also the Chief of Bariatric Surgery here so guess he has lots of experience!

Mine said about an hour also. Those three hour numbers were beginning to make me think my guy is taking shortcuts LOL.

My 5 hour number makes me feel like something was wrong with mine.

Mine said it would be 1.5-2 hours and I think it was 1.5.

Not sure why mine took 3 hours... there were no complications. My surgeon used the Da Vinci Robot-don't know if that's why it took longer.

I wonder if people are talking about how long they were gone from their family vs. actual OR time?

No actual time to complete my surgery was 2 hrs 45 mins in recovery and then I was off to my room back with my family. I had to be at the hospital at 5:30 surgery was at 7:30 I was in my room around 11:15. Only took that ling because I had to wait for bed or something.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
