Hi guys! I'm hoping to get clearance for exercise on 8/1. I've always loved the Water and hope to find a water aerobics class soon. But for someone who is not a fan of exercising; where should I start? Are there programs for beginners? If I get a trainer are they going to yell at me? This whole thing makes me the most nervous. Thanks

If you're starting from nothing I say start with walking. It's free, you can work it around your schedule, and you can easily increase time and speed when your body gets used to doing what you're doing. Some places offer beginner classes but typically The Water aerobics can be adjusted individually based on each participants ability and fitness level so really you can jump in at any time! if you want a trainer, Trainers are great and are there to support you. I would verbalized that you need someone warm and fuzzy and not a drill Sargent :). Shouldn't be a problem for the gym to accommodate that. That said, there are lots of things you can do on your own so don't feel like you HAVE to get a trainer. If you want that one on one time with someone teaching you and can afford it, go for it!!!! Or if you're struggling to find a good work out or yourself or the weight is not coming off a trainer might can give ya some insight.

If you are a beginner to exercise start off slow and try lots of different exercises like walking, swimming, treadmill, cycling, etc. etc. You mentioned you like swimming which is fantastic and you get to use all your muscle groups :) You need to shop around at different facilities to see which one you feel comfortable at. Maybe interview some personal trainers and get the right one that fits YOUR NEEDS! No one is going to yell at you they will encourage you to do one more but yelling at you I think you see that on TV and if a trainer did yell at you I would immediately tell them that is unacceptable !! Encouragement is welcome but in a positive way.

I always tell people to find a exercise that you like then it will not feel like you HAVE to work out, you will look forward to working out. My true love is running, I look forward to running every day, I run 5+ miles a day before work and on the weekends I go outside with my dogs and get them going as well.

Just remember take it slow, try different things and find something you enjoy doing :) Good luck !!!

Love water aerobics. I started with really low intensity classes and worked my way up. A lot of ymcas have a wide variety.

Hi, I love exercise even before surgery. Had my surgery on 07/01/2013. I really suggest you find classes. Cardio classes (spinning is awesome). Try some light weight lifting classes so you can be toned. That way you will start easily and enjoy. Also, some people like to have a working out buddy. I personally don't because I focus more on my work out. Try enrolling yourself at a gym that has classes and trainers. That way you can do some classes, learn exercise from other trainers and so forth. I really really really suggest you working out. It feel great after it!!

You need to find something that gets you excited abut working out. If you don't enjoy it you will stop doing it and lose you motivation quickly. Try many different things. Water aerobics, yoga, kick boxing, Zumba.... There are so many options. As for a trainer find one that understands your goals and fits with your life style. Don't ever let someone make you feel bad about working out. Go visit several different gyms and see what fits you best.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
