I'm a little discouraged too. My surgery was 8/26/13 and I gained 10 lbs in the hospital ( fluids) I guess. I've only lost 5 lbs. I am getting about 70 g of Protein in a day and drinking about 60 oz, walking 2-3 times a day.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't get discouraged! I lost 9 lbs after surgery In 4 days, then nothing. I was so upset but since last Friday I've lost 6 lbs. My surgery was 8.14. I was talking to some people that said it would come in spurts. One person lost 25 lbs in one month and had been losing it slowly since. It will be long process. We can do it!

I've been told by many to up my calories so your body comes out of starvation mode...so I've gotten the calories up by doing small meals and snacks..doing about 1000 a day

Well im back in the hospital. The pain in abdomen got so severe that I came to the hosp. N they admitted me. They did a CT n it showed abcesses and pockets of Fluid. Plus a UTI.

But this morning after every one prayed. The surgeon said he couldn't find the abcess now. N thinks Mayberry my incision got irritated wen I started moving around. That's all he could think of. So they are running gallbladder test now. N maybe if its good I will go home Tomoro.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
