Why do I have to be a food addict?

Recommended Posts

IMO, it's the hardest addiction to break...you need food to survive!! Some days I feel it would be easier to be an alcholic or drug addict. Just my random thoughts for today!!

I have always thought of myself as a food addict as well, so you are not alone! I used to think about what to have for Breakfast in the middle of the night. Or if we went shopping for the day, id think about where we could eat. Everything was about food! I still sometimes think like that, and then remember that I've had surgery. Sometimes I even get depressed about it. It is a life long issue that we are dealing with, even after surgery! Good luck to you!

I would day dream at work about what tasty food I could have later and plan it out. So I understand where you are coming from. Everything I did revolved around food. I am 2.5 weeks post op and struggle hard with this. I am having a hard time coming up with things to do that don't involve food. Reading is another passion of mine and that's helping me. I seriously bought 13 new books this weekend so I won't run out for a while.

I agree with you 100%. I quit smoking cold turkey 7 years ago, have given up drinking, and working through a food addiction is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Food has been the one and only thing that has always been there for me no matter what was happening. I have planned everything around food.

When I first started researching and seriously considering WLS one of my fears was what will I do if I can't eat? We will figure this out and get through it. Good luck to you.

I totally agree! I've always been obsessed with food and still am at times. I'm actually surprised I have been able to stick with my new way of eating but I think it is fear driven (I don't want to get sick!) today though I've been hungry all day and I can't stop thinking about food. I even nibbled and kept thinking I have to be full I just ate a few bites of something. I'm not even sure I ate enough but I think I have and I'm afraid. We will get there eventually, it's a learning process as we go.

I know a lady that had the sleeve done six months ago and she goes to Over-eaters Anonymous which has helped her alot. You can look online www.oa.com to see if there are any support groups in your area.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
