Incisions have to be completely healed.. You run the risk of infection otherwise

I started swimming at about 2 weeks. Just make sure that your incisions are healed.

I am far too body conscious still, though I LOVE being in the Water, I can't wait until I feel comfortable enough in my own skin to be in a public pool!

I just had my one week follow up this morning and was cleared to swim. I live on cape cod and my whole life during the summer revolves around the beach. I can't wait to get in the water!! But alas, it's still a little cold. : (

I love the cape, it's my favorite day trip. P-town in October and lots of parking with no crowds. Driving around exploring little towns and fresh roadside seafood. September and October are the best months in seaside towns. The tourists really don't know what they're missing.

I live near Little Compton RI (just a couple houses away from the town line). And I grew up on Aquidneck Island in Newport. My whole life has been spent a stone's throw from the ocean. When I was smaller it was always a part of my life to go swimming in the evening, after the tourists were gone. It seems like only locals love the beach in the evenings. The beach was where I had make-out dates with my husband (before and after marriage), swimming, crabbing, and clamming with the kids, hot dog roasts and evening fishing with beach bonfires - all wonderful things I haven't done in fifteen years or more. I'm hoping I will feel comfortable enough to go for a cooling swim after a hot summer day. I haven't done that in years!

I used to dread each new summer but now we have so much to look forward to!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
