Hi I'm new on here. My surgery is going to be in October sometime. I was wondering what everyone has been doing to try to lose a little weight before surgery. I don't have a job and can't find one where I live this economy is so bad. So I was wondering if anyone had cheaper meal ideas.

Are you able to plant a small garden? If so, that could be a more economical way of you getting some fresh veggies. Goodness knows how expensive they are in the store! It's incredible to me how expensive healthy food is. My best suggestion is just Portion Control. If you can't afford the more expensive, less processed food then just try and eat a little less of what you can afford. I know I shop at Aldi (a discount grocery store in my area). If you have online access (which I suppose you have some since you're on here), try and look for discount grocery stores in your area. I know we couldn't afford half of what we eat if I didn't shop there. I'll try and think of some of my less expensive, healthier meals and il share. Let me check out my "meal book". Lol

Doctor is telling me Protein protein protein. I do have strawberries, grapes, tomatoes and onions growing already. Just started this year next year I want to grow more. I do go to Aldi's as well but I have no income at all. My boyfriend pays all the bills, were lucky to have $20. Toward groceries

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
