I know that I have to give up soda and anything carbonated....so I am taking my last few sips of my diet sierra mist as I am writing this. It's worth giving it up now....I know I had a love for this stuff as well as coffee. These two things are minor considering what I'm going to gain by getting the surgery.

You are so right, had the band three years ago and gave up my diet pepsi, haven't made to the coffee yet, but giving up soda was hard don't even miss it now. I'll be giving up the coffee probably with the bypass, or might have to give it up tomorrow after they remove the band. I can have it though until 7:00 AM. Thank goodness I'll be on some sort of pain meds as they should help with the headache I'll get from not having caffine. All is worth it as you said for what we'll gain from the surgery.

My last diet coke was on my birthday April 8.

I would have to say, that was the hardest thing to give up so far.

I was averaging 2- 2liter bottles a day. sometimes more if i stayed up late.

I love Diet Coke so much!! I gave it up for 4 months...I'm 7months post op and I can drink it on occasion...it has to be a fountain drink. Cans are too fizzy.

I'm a 13 months post op and I was a diet pepsi addict, that was the only thing I drank... no coffee, no tea... just DP. It was difficult at first but I got use to it. The first time I took a sip of soda was about 5 months post op and it tasted like all chemicals = yuck. Now I can have a bit of soda every now and then and I don't miss it at all.

I'm looking forward to feeling that way....because I can go for some right now.....I prepared for this though...I only have tea in my desk and no cash on me so the vending machines are a no no. Tonight I'm going grocery shopping and I am going to rack up on more crystal light or generic brand of different flavors.

I quit cold turkey... hardest thing ever.. after 17 striaght years of only drinking that..

now i have gone to diet tea.. makes me eat alot less bad things because for me tea doesnt

mix well with fatty foods and popcorn.. so not i dont eat them as much..

next step is water..

hoping that will go well.

An after thought..... my tastes changed BIG TIME after surgery !!! I no loner can tolerate meat and I use to love a nice big fat delmonico steak, etc. or a nice juicy burger... after surgery I have no taste for meat what so ever. The only thing I like somewhat is corned beef and then its only a small thin slice. I now live on veggies, eggs, cheese, nuts, grains and a bit of fish. When I do have a small soda it tastes funny at first I guess because I am so use to my Lipton tea drink now. A glass of soda once a week is all that I can handle and I am totally fine with that... big change from 6-8 cans a day !!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
