Alright fellow July folk our month starts tomorrow! We have all been on this journey for months and our new lives will begin in the next few days. I am sure this will be a tough and trying couple of weeks but we will start having our own NSVs before we know it.

Please remember not one of us needs to fight this battle on their own. Use this board to rant, brag, complain, and ask questions. July is going to be great!!!

If it gives you hope, every time I have to do liquids, I start feeling better on day 4 or 5 (by better I mean less completely and totally miserable, headache and hunger fade, energy still sucks)..by week 2 I'm pretty numb and just roll with it!

It is SO worth it though!!!! You'll see :)

Confusing paperwork from insurance company...

Opened my mail tonight to find paperwork from the utilization management department ( whatever that is) of my insurance company and a small bit of panic set in as I read it over . The surgery date that I was told was July 8, but this paperwork says July 19. I know it's only a few days difference but I must admit I am feeling so disappointed right now.

Of course I will be calling the doctors office first thing in the morning..... But I know I won't sleep very good now worrying about it. I want to get this done... It has been a 10 year process for me back and forth, having the courage to attend seminars and give surgery serious contemplation , then talking myself out of it time and again. Now that I have finally accepted that I am fully ready to accept the lifestyle change that is required and have the courage to proceed, an extra 8 days seems like an eternity!

Hopefully, all my fret is for nothing and its just a typo. Lol

Seems ridiculous to vent about this minute detail in the grand scheme of things ahead, but I know someone on this board will understand!

McLenz, my insurance's (is that a word?) UM department also has had the wrong date. Turns out, for me, that the surgeon's office just submitted a tentative date & it didn't really set anything in stone. My scheduler told me that once you're approved, you're approved. They could perform the surgery the next day & the insurance would have to pay because they approved it. I hope this is also true for you and your surgery will not be postponed! Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
