So I see this car...

Recommended Posts

...and it has one of those "It's a child, not a choice" stickers on it. And inside I see a male driving, and a female holding a baby on her lap. Now this is going down the Interstate, 70 mph speed limit, I'm going 75 and they're passing me pretty quickly. And I see four children in the backseat. I can't tell if any are sealbelted, but I know at least two were not because they had climbed up onto the back dash (you know, the flat space reserved for tissues and other things we lose that meets up with the back window) and are making faces at all of the cars they go by. And I'm thinking yeah, you made the right choice...

And then I get closer to home and stop at the gas station. A not very nice truck. That happens to have confederate flags on the back windows, and a "NO FAT CHICKS" bumper sticker on the back. The door opens and this man gets out who has at least 200 lbs on me. His sweatpants are filthy and, well - let's just say he needed to say no to crack. Grizzly beard, greasy hair, and flip flops (it's like 7 degrees out here). And let's just say he'd probably never seen a pedicure. He closes his door and proceeds to "hock a lugey" onto the side of the gas pump, laugh, and have a conversation with himself. And this guy is going to tell me "NO FAT CHICKS"? Why, because they turn you down too? (BTW, he also had one that said "TO ALL YOU VIRGINS - THANKS FOR NOTHING")

And I started wondering - what do you think the deal is with bumper stickers? Do you think people really feel this way? Do you think they're so hungry for attention that they do it just for the reaction? Do you think they bought the car from someone else, and "inherited" the political placards? Have you ever seen an absolutely ironic political statement, and wondered - wtf?!

My car has no stickers. I used to have a Darnwin fish, but someone stole it off my car. I was told that one of the resident church-goers relieved me of my ownership. And I remember thinking, how ironic...

Hey Wheetsin, I personally detest car bumper stickers myself. As for the whole ''No fat chicks" thing, I have personally been abused by some males twice my size. It seems it is ok for a male to be obese, but if a women is obese they have committed a crime against society.

I agree that kids should always be in car seats. I remember that when I was young that we didn't wear seatbelts or car seats...what dummies are parents were! lol...

I think you are spot on about bumper stickers being political placecards. I do not have any other than a sticker I made myself...

I had the VW logo with "Anything boys can do girls can do better" in chrome. It was to keep my hubby away from my new car. It didn't work, someone (he still says it wasn't him) stole all the words off it and left just the VW logo. But after I thought about it, I did ask for it!! NOW no more bumberstickers, just my personalized plate...lol...but it says "Luv VW" as my plate number. I do love my car....:)

Hubby has a "I ♥ MY WIFE" sticker. THAT started as a joke - I gave it to him along with a t-shirt that said, "Yes dear..." on it for a sort of white elephant anniversary present, and he liked it and put it on his truck.

Now on the rare occasion that I drive his truck - wow, do I get some weird looks.

I agree about the fat men/women thing. And it's also a little different (or so it seems) for short women. E.g. a short "petite" woman who looks, say, 60 lbs overweight seems to be more "ok" than a 5'10 women who looks 60 lbs overweight. I'm an Amazon woman, and I used to really and truly believe that if I'd been bortn shorter, it would have been ok weight-wise, because then I would be "cute". lol

Boo Boo, do you have one of the new model bugs, or the classic?

And yes, I remember going around without a seatbelt, and in the front seat. One time dad got cut off, had to brake suddenly, and my face went right into the dash. Fortunately it was relatively low speed, but I had a tooth (that was loose anyway, thankfully) get knocked out and pushed up into the soft palette, bloody lip, etc. What were they thinking, indeed. I think they just didn't "get" the importance of it back then.

Trust me, at 5' 2" with a small bone structure, fat is fat. Short or tall those extra pounds show. I have a girlfriend who says women become invisible to men as a love interest once they cross over the 200 pound mark.

As for bumper stickers, I don't have any on my vehicle and don't always agree with what some say but it's America and I respect their right to freedom of expression... even if the sticker is hurtful.

No one is advocating for people to not have stickers. They're just so gosh darned ironic sometimes.

I have no stickers on my car. One of our friends has a beautiful black Escalade and has a Harley Davidson sticker, a mandela sticker, and an American chopper sticker on the back window, and a rattlesnake rattler and chicken (?) claw hanging from his rearview mirror. For some reason that cracks me up. Kind of like putting the old recliners on the front porch of a $300,000 house, lol. My husband (firefighter) has the firefighter logo, the red thing with the crossed firepicks, on his truck window. Suprisingly it has gotten us out of 3 tickets...I guess there is a feeling of brotherhood among police officers and firefighters. NOT why he has it on his window though, lol.

I dont have bumper stickers but I do have two magnets. One says "I love my Basset Hound." And the other says "Some A$$hole stole my support ribbon". At one point in time I did have the yellow support ribbon magnet, till someone stole it.

I would have to agree with her. Although, I think taller women carry their weight better. A 200-pound woman that's 6 feet tall looks a lot thinner than a 200-pound woman that's 5 feet tall.

People up here in Canada don't usually put bumper stickers on their cars. I think that we are afraid that we will get rust build-up around them. I guess the only one I have seen is the breast cancer ribbon.

I have a VW Jetta TDI, which means I get 600 miles on a 13 gallon tank of diesel gas. I drive about 600 miles a week, so literally I just LOVE my car! :)

BUT we are looking for an old VW van to fix up!

Yes, actually I've wondered the same thing. It reminds of virtual bumper stickers too. You know, the ones people put under their user names and then wonder why they get questioned about it. Some people even get a little testy b/c it's been "discussed into the ground". If you choose to display your views, expect to get responses and/or questions. How ironic indeed!

My hubby and I both have a sitcker on both of our cars, that says "They use us and abuse us" with all the railroad logos on it. My hubby is a railroader and they are working them to death without a current union contract. He also has several overtime claims that are due to him for over 6 months that we are still waiting to recieve. Once they get a contract signed the stickers will come off. I also have an I heart my Bostons sticker (decal) in my back window. ~Mandy

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
