Feb 2006 Bandsters: 1 Year Check-up!!

Recommended Posts

Last update to the list's numbers: 2/20/06

Woohooo, it's been a year! (Or close to it, lol.) I figure it's about time for updates. Here's the last list I had (I added a couple of folks from the other thread that posted after I disappeared). I'd love to hear from ya'll -- anything you'd like to tell us. Some ideas:

  • Weight loss so far
  • Inches lost so far
  • Are you at goal? How much further?
  • Favorite NSVs
  • Would you do it again?
  • High point / low point
  • Before & after pics (I know there's another thread for this, but we're special. :))

Ok, I guess I'll play secretary. Post your day of surgery, surgeon's name & location (if you want), and any weight loss so far & I'll add you to the list. ;) I've seen it done for other months, can't let 'em show us up! :paranoid

Some of January's & March's bandsters are joining us as well -- the more the merrier! Feel free to add your stats! Our surgeries are close enough that we're dealing with the same stuff.

As you have more weight lost, post it & I'll update. Inches too, if you'd like. And when you have fills, if you want to share that, please feel free. If at all possible, put the size of your band too (it helps for comparison). That way we can track how others on the January / February / March timeline are doing. :)

Thanks guys!

DISCLAIMER 3/8/06: We're adding in pre-op losses separately. If I didn't have yours, I put (? pre-op). If I got your numbers from your signature, I used your highest recorded weight. So if I'm not correct & it matters to you, please post with the correct numbers.

Edit 4/21: I updated weights based on signatures where I could. Some still haven't checked in, so they show little to no weight loss. Can't help it! ;)

Edit 6/2: Updating everyone's numbers from recent posts and/or signatures. "No update" signifies that I couldn't find new numbers for someone. I'm not taking them off the list, but it does slant the numbers somewhat.

NOTE: The red numbers are overall... I didn't subtract out the pre-op number -- though some people did on their own. Yeah, it's confusing... sorry! I should have done pre-op from the get go. ;)

1 kg = 2.205 pounds (Note to myself, for converting Magic's numbers!)

Thanks!

Ok, I'll go. ;) First, I'm sorry I disappeared!! I'm afraid I fell off the face of the earth. I got really, really depressed & cut myself off from everyone. Literally. Friends, family, job, church, the works. I'm just now beginning to pull myself out of the pit. It's been bad.

I wouldn't say the depression was band related, though the changes from the band really didn't help, heh. I strongly dislike change! I think I'm still in mourning for my old way of life, even though I'm enjoying the changes the band has brought. Dunno, definitely a work in progress!

I'm frustrated with my results. Starting at surgery weight, I've lost 44 pounds in the past year. Granted, that's amazing for the old Janet. I've NEVER lost 44 pounds & kept them off for more than a week! Actually, I've never lost more then 40 pounds! ;) But I really was hoping for better. *Shrug* I trucked on down to 250-ish & just stopped. I've been right around 250 since Sept. Never below it, mind you, lol. :)

My restriction is fine, not sure how much I have anymore (lost track). I can eat anything & everything, but have to do it VERY slowly & carefully. Some days I don't eat much, some days I can eat the world. I get really restricted around that time of the month, hate that!

So, for my list:

  • Weight loss so far: 44 pounds
  • Inches lost so far: 53 inches
  • Are you at goal? Not even halfway. How much further? *sigh* 110 pounds (Around that, not sure what my goal is.)
  • Favorite NSVs: I can wear my wedding ring again. I put on size 18 pants the other day. (Couldn't close them, but got 'em over my hips!!)
  • Would you do it again? Yes, in a heartbeat. Overall the changes have been good. I'm not happy with where I am, but I'm definitely not gaining, which I was before the surgery!
  • High point: The beginning (honeymoon). I loved the hope. Low point: Probably my 1 year appointment. I really thought I'd finally broken 250, but I hadn't. Oh well.
  • Before & "during" pics: I'm still working on sizing them, but here's my scar pics. It was hard to find the scars! Didn't realize how much they had faded. One NSV, I guess, lol, it seems my boobs are further away from the scars then they used to be, the port scar is now above my underwear line, and I have a waist now, woohoo! ;)

janetscars.jpg

I've missed you all! Hopefully some of you are still on LBT & can forgive me for disappearing! Hope you're all doing awesome & getting all the success you deserve!!

((( Hugs all around!! )))

Janet

Well dang, Janet, you could be my wife if you weren't you. Joy has been at 256 since last August. Same restriction and everything... She's headed in for a doctor's visit and maybe another fill on March 8th. I mean, she's been on a plateau for 6 months. Let's do lunch!!!

Absolutely, Randy, lunch is a must!! I'll start a thread in the Texas forum. Glad you're still around here!

I'm really wondering if my plateau is more mental then anything. I think that I'm uncomfortable losing beyond 250. I'm not really happy at 250, but I can stand it: I have sufficient clothes, I stalled here a while on the way up, I still have enough fat to "protect" myself while not having so much that I can't turn over in bed. And to be honest, as soon as people started noticing I was losing, I stopped. Sad, but true.

So I'm trying to find counseling that is both cheap AND useful. And hopefully come to terms with myself so that I can let myself move on.

Thanks for posting & give Ms Joy a hug for me! :) Hope to see you both soon!

Finally finished my pics... and worried that this thread is gonna be just me, lol. Where'd you all go? I came across Sunta's pics in the picture thread, you look amazing!! *sigh* Hopefully everyone's just out for the weekend.

Janet:

You are gorgeous in that red! Your face looks even younger than before. Most of all, I'm glad that the dark cloud of depression finally "took a hike". February has been the moody, sad month for me. I have to make a real effort to stay engaged and around people.

I've done well with the weight journey, but I've been pretty much alone on the journey. Back in September, I got together with some really adventurous ladies and went roller skating a few times.

I miss your smiling face; can't wait to see you and Ms. Joy and Randy.

I'm coming up on my 1 year bandiversary on Feb 20th.So much has happened since then.I was able to lose 115 pounds within 7 months.I worked my butt off to get to that goal.I then went on to have a Tummy Tuck and breast lift with implants in October.I then 5 weeks later had a lower body lift to revise and correct a botched tummy tuck! Since the full lower body lift in December I've lost another 15 lbs.I am now at goal weight of 125 lbs as of Jan 25th.I went from an initial size 28/30 pants and a size 4x blouses @ 255 lbs to a current size 1 pants and a size medium blouse.I am loving the new me.I am so happy with my new bod!I have a hard time recognizing myself in a mirror sometimes,It brings me to tears to realize how far I've come. EVERYTHING physical in life is so much more comfortable in this size body.I can't explain the way I feel but to say I have no regrets of getting banded and would do it again in a heart beat.I love what it has done for me and how it has changed my life,as well as my family's life, having a "new" Mom and Wife.I wish everyone knew about the band or would be willing to give it a chance instead of opting for more drastic procedures.I referred my sister to Dr Kuri in TJ,who did my band and she was banded in April, she has lost 85 lbs so far.

I WISH EVERYONE LUCK AT REACHING YOUR GOAL & I WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY FIRST YEAR BANDIVERSARY!!

PS having trouble posting pics,if anyone willing to post them for me via personal email, please let me know. Thanks!

I had set a goal for myself of at least 100 lbs by my banding date but missed it by 8 lbs. Really bothered my till my Dr (again) told me how good I was doing and (again!) gave me the didn't gain it all in a yr speech. The month is not over yet and I am nearer- now need 5 lbs to make it. I was finally able to start excersising and that has helped get the scales moving. Whether I make the 100 this month or not, the changes a yr have made are incredible and I am looking forward to the changes this next yr will bring. Oh my, It has been fun! Just by reading all the different posts I have finally gotten it through my head that we are all different- some of us will loose faster and some slower and just because someone has lost the same amount in half the time does not deminish what I have done personally. If we were all the same what a boring world this would be!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
