1st Fill Yesterday - Different Band than I thought

Recommended Posts

I went in for my first fill yesterday. My doc does all fills with the flouro (sp). Before he looked at the machine, He asked me which band I have. I told him I have the Vanguard band. That's what I was told immediately after surgery and that's what the little card they gave me says (the one you are supposed to carry in your wallet). He turned on the flouro and said "no, you have the regular 4cc band."

Not sure what to think about this. Does this happen very often? Should I care which band I have? I just thought the bigger Vanguard would be more "flexible" in finding the right amount of fill. But maybe not..... He put in 1.5cc's. I am required to go on full liquids for seven days so not sure about the amount of restriction I have yet. I did have a little trouble getting down a Protein shake this am, but drank most of it.

I've never gotten a clear answer about why one band is chosen over the other one.

Anyone know?

Thanks

Actually you will probably have an easier time finding the right fill. The Vanguard holds more and has fan like panels. SOmetimes they can't get all the fill out of a Vanguard to find how much you have. I would think having the smaller band will be better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
